Muddy interference. And does anyone else get early-morning-running-hair?

I got out for a run in the very early morning, cause … I just felt like it. My hair didn’t agree, so does anyone else get early-morning-running-hair (pictured)?

In my NRC 10k plan, it was going to be Week 3 Run 3: Slow down to speed up.

But rather than “slowing down to speed up”, my run ended up being “synchronise hill-stretch and avoid mud” run.

Okay, so I had it all planned out this morning. I would use my summer route. I was going to use the level paths around my near hill (not up the hill) for the interval run. I could even use two different level paths branching off to ensure I’ve got enough level paths. However, there is a reason why they call this the mud season, and a reason why I only run this route outside of the mud season. And every year, there is a moment where I forget this and I find myself face to face with a sea of mud!

And that was me today. I took the first branch and 10 meters into the route, there it was: squelchy, wet, grass strewn, ankle deep mud reaching under the fence on one side and to the stream to the other.

So I took the second branching off, thinking there are enough options here… no worries…. only to encounter a newly put up electric fence! The local farmer had cordoned off the level, large, open space field used by most dog walkers in this area, and runners like me, trying to find level running paths throughout the mud season!

So, my interval run ended up being a hill run, deciding to accept running up and down the hill and the km of level path on either side, trying yo synchronise the ups, level and downs with the different paces/efforts, whilst avoiding the mud.

Only by the time the final run came along, a 9/10 effort of 30 seconds, did I really get my path-mud-hill-timing right, and that brought me with a fast-bouncy finale (pictured) right to the point where I always start my cool-down walk.

So all in all a nice run, today. Especially nice was the feeling on waking, no gremlins in sight, the light just beginning to be bright, when I just wanted to get out there and run. Even if my hair didn’t think so!

Well done CBDB 👏👏 Like nowster I don’t have any hair issues (not much hair at all if I’m honest!) but what I do have is always under a cap when I’m running 😊

I love having open peaked caps, so my hair always escapes! 😂😂

Oh my goodness. I’m not looking at my hair this morning. I didn’t wash it after Zumba last night knowing I’m running today and it looks like I’ve slept in a bin. Hooray for hats.

Unexpected mud and fences isn’t something that’s covered in the c25k programme and it absolutely should be! You did well to find somewhere suitable. It’s all hills round here too and my intervals are often on a bit of gradient. Brilliant run for you-sometimes having a good old speedy one is the just perfect thing. ❤️

My hair just goes straight from"being asleep hair" to "swishy ponytail hair" without aid of brush or comb. Not particularly neat a and by three things I get home falling down and very wispy ☺️ Mud ... Oh my goodness it's returned with vengeance!

Well done of your muddy outing

ha ha, my hair is too short for a pony tail at the moment. And strangely, I like my stand-uppy-hair.

Return of the mud, yeah, with a vengeance indeed!

well done on your early morning run, mud as well. Drizzle not good on mine goes lank and frizzy, not that I’ve got curls. I was out early as well, just a short walk again , it’s good to be up early, best part of the day.

it is when I do get out! But I do love mornings under a duvet, as well! 🤣🤣

Well done on getting out there... clearly what you needed... hope you are okay...

My hair... it's always under my hat or cap... so it stays put... I tuck it onto my neck Buff too because it keeps me warm!

You and your hair had a great run !

Mud everywhere! No I wear a cap to hold hair tightly in as mine is fine so wispy flyaways are too annoying! Then get sweat drenched so never pretty at the end!

When I was young I'd wash my hair every other day. Now, I think to myself, well, I'll be running tomorrow so may as well leave it until after that. Or 'it's raining, no point doing it today.'

It's now been 4 days, there's been wind, rain and a sauna, but I'm going running tomorrow....

I didn't get round to brushing my hair yesterday morning and I thought of you as I left the house - my style icon 😂

I shave my head to avoid early-morning-running-hair. I calculate that it is good for 0.03 seconds per Kilometre as an added bonus.

🤣🤣🤣 at least 0.03 sec! I’m ultra slow! Maybe it’s because of my hair!? 🧐 🤔😉
