After an enforced break from running due to a painful tooth abscess I decided to make my comeback run this morning. Root canal treatment starting in 6 weeks, something to look forward to! ๐ฌ
The gremlins were out in full force this morning ๐. I had put everything on charge last night. Got up at 6 am. Dressing gown on ๐ and downstairs for a cuppa. Dilly dallying and chitter chat with my brother. Should I/shouldnโt I run? ๐ Tomorrow might be a better day! Went and showered. Felt more positive and put my running gear on. Checked the forecast - itโs really too warm to run, isnโt it? ๐.
Overcoming all the gremlins I decided to run but I would Jeff it and take it easy! Iโm still taking painkillers so thought my heart rate might be elevated; but it would just be a 3K run. That wonโt be hard!
Stretches and out of the door. Warm up walk, workout selected and off I go!
Well, I kept to my plan for the first 1/2 km, but soon started to push the run intervals. Result was, even with the walk breaks I got very tired! The uphill parts felt like mountains and it was very warm. I persevered but I was hot at the end and I felt that Iโd overdone it. I was happy, though, to get that 3K run under my belt; itโs often difficult to get back to it after a break.
I think I like the 40:30 intervals, Iโll try the same again next week, Next run, Iโm going to try and do a slow 5K and a longer Zone 3 run at the weekend.

Well done, gremlins defeated and a nice 3k run under your belt ๐๐๐ your body must be feeling it after having to cope with that abscess so it's not surprising it felt like an effort, especially if you're pushing during running intervals - I just love how your competitive side can't stay in the back seat for long ๐ I'm planning a longish run later this week so might give that 40:30 ratio a go ๐
Thanks, Beatles ๐, itโs fun to play with those ratios - probably take a good while to find out which one suits us best. I noticed that I was looking at my watch a lot for the last 10 seconds of the 45:30 ratio which is why I changed it. You wouldnโt think that 5 seconds would make such a difference.
Sorry to hear about the abscess, they can be really painful so don't beat yourself up too much. Procrastinating is always part of my running routine! Glad to see you back ๐
Thanks, Runninggirl. Oh yes, itโs been painful! I need to cut back on the procrastinating, itโs mentally exhausting! I had learned how to shut it off, but the break hasnโt helped. Good to be back, though ๐
I love that Running Girl!! Made me smile so much โ procrastinating is always part of my running routine โ just sums it up perfectly. Youโre so rightโฆโฆitโs a miracle I ever get out the door, but now I know itโs all part of my routine Iโll just go with it! ๐๐
Youโre so right. I feel much better now. Plus, Iโve just sacked a locum solicitor who was confusing my case and Iโve had all her costs refunded. I feel like a load has been lifted and Iโm back in control ๐
Ooh, hadnโt thought of that! Abscess is a lot less painful today as the tooth has been drilled, flushed and โโdressedโ with a temporary filling on top! So I can dispense with the painkillers today, I think.
Ouch thats nasty, makes me feel all the complaining about an upset stomach wasnโt warranted glad you felt ok to run again though and it sounds like it went well
Feel much better today. I think the infection is under control now. Well, you canโt run with an upset stomach, for the obvious reason and also you feel exhausted with it, so glad youโre on the mend!
Thanks, yes it wasnโt much fun but neither is an abscess so iโm just glad we are both on the mend ๐we are on way to beach, Willow is singing along to my playlist which is synced to car speakers itโs great, for a singer he doesnโt sing along to things as often as iโd like
Ouch sorry to hear about the tooth ๐ฆท๐. But well done on getting out there for a run. Sounds as though you were met with a veritable army of gremlins this morning, they are SO bad! But you overpowered them, well done ๐.
Great to have to you back Jools - I was wondering what had happened to you! That's a brilliant comeback run - teeth and gremlins considered and all. Well done! ๐๐๐I've not been on here as much and have done my fair share of procrastinating lately for one reason or another. I need to get back into a proper routine.
Interesting what you say about the 45:30 ratio though as I was finding myself checking the watch quite often as well. I think I'll give it another go though and then I might try 40:30 and see how that goes.
Thanks, Diane, good to be back. Determined to get back to my routine, which was working well ๐
Thatโs the joy of Jeffing, we can try out new ratios whenever we want! Many people on the Facebook page use 30:30. I tried that and didnโt like it. Now Iโm wondering if I might have been a bit hasty. Anyway, Iโm going to give 40:30 another go next week over 5K. ๐
Well done Jools! So sorry about your tooth trouble. Sounds horrid and more to come ๐Back to the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday plan. I've been keeping it going in your absence, but it's good to have you back. ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Yes, more to come with the tooth! Iโm bruised after the last treatment. Thank you for keeping going with the plan ๐ Iโll share it with you again!
๐ Pleased to join with you. Also pleased to say I ran my first 10km in 1ยฝyears on Saturday. Even wrote a post, I was really delighted indeed. I will drop down my distance this Saturday, but I have yet to decide how far I will run. ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Of course! A 30 minute Jeff is still a run and Jeffing is a learning curve. I read on the Facebook page that itโs not recommended to walk for more that 30 seconds. I find that shorter running times seem to suit me better, too. I did try running for 2 minutes and that was a disaster! Then I tried 30 seconds, then 45 and now 40! Iโll find the sweet spot in the end ๐
Great you got out and got the run done yesterday ๐. I can absolutely sympathise with the tooth pain (currently on second batch of antibiotics while I'm waiting for root canal treatment). So, so glad the dentists can treat these things again! Good luck for the treatment when it comes!
Oh, poor you! Iโm not sure why I didnโt get any antibiotics, the dentist just drilled and cleaned out as much of the infection as he could, sprayed it with some stuff and put on a temporary filling. I now have to wait because heโs busy. Ah well, Iโm just enjoying the lack of pain right now and itโs great to be running again and to be able to sleep at night ๐
So good you can sleep again and run! Its definitely priority to stop the pain and good that cleaning the tooth out is working. I was told that antibiotics cant really clear an infection in the jaw but can help shrink it and stop it from getting worse. I've had trouble since June last year when the tooth originally died but it flared up last week and they gave me a date for the treatment. So grateful!
The dentist thought my tooth was dead - We found out it wasnโt when he started drilling! Ouch! Letโs hope the root canal work sorts us both out - my dentist gave it a 60% chance of working ๐ I donโt care as long as as I can run ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
๐ฎ oh! You'd certainly know it still had working nerves when he started drilling! I guess 60% is better than 50:50 and if it works its so much nicer to have the tooth ๐ค good luck!
