Up and straight into my running gear. Knew it was going to be cold but 1 degree??? Really???? Dragon scale leggings, lime green jacket, buff around my ears and off I went. It didn’t seem so cold after a couple of mins walking and I was breathing ok despite the cold. So I decided to go for 5k ( this has been a struggle for me for a while now).
I started running and after 2 1/2 mins I had to stop and walk again for about 30 seconds. Determined not to waver I started again and managed another 4 minutes before walking again for about 1 minute. I’m beginning to think it’s a mental thing because my breathing was ok and my legs weren’t aching so off I went again and this time I ran for over 10 mins before another 1 minute walk. I had chosen to reverse my Chaddiford Lane route so, in fairness a lot of the beginning of the run was uphill. So then I managed the whole of Chaddiford Lane and across the dual carriageway and out through the Industrial Estate towards the river and Tarka Trail.
I was halfway round now but unfortunately the rest of my journey was taken up with concentrating hard and making it back to the loo without a Radcliffe incident 🤣🤣 so I actually made pretty good time. No PR but 43 mins for a 5k run isn’t too bad when you are not back up to usually fitness yet.
Saw loads of other runners who looked as though they were enjoying it much more than me. Also one other guy who went past me leaning over to one side and wheezing like hell. But he was motoring along for all his wheezing. But all in all I’m glad I went. I CAN still make it around a 5k run ( just) and I will be out there again on Tuesday morning. Tomorrow morning is MOT day so I will have my fingers crossed for that now. My little Ibiza is 20 years old now so it’s not certain but I don’t really want to replace him yet....
