This was a first for me today - running with a friend! I've always run alone to avoid the pressure of matching someone else's pace. So when a friend suggested we run together as she's now roughly doing the same pace as me i thought why not give it a go since I hadn't seen her for months and it would be an opportunity to catch up at the same time.

So we met up and off we trotted gabbing our heads off the whole time - it was utterly brilliant! We ended up doing 5k without really thinking about it - very slow, but a cause for celebration as we could have easily carried on if my bladder had been up for it.

So running with company is now going to be my weekly, sociable treat! Small pleasures folks...... πŸ₯³πŸŽŠ

How lovely! The first time I did c25k I had my other half as my running buddy but we let it fizzle out (the running, that is πŸ˜ƒ) and I went back on my own. Sounds like fun though, glad you enjoyed it!

Was really great - and my first proper 5k in a while too!

Even better πŸ˜ƒ

Excellent that you continue to trot and good encouragement to run with a friend. You will soon be in Scotland πŸ€—

Heh heh a lot of trotting to do before I hear the bagpipes... i see you are going by Loch Tay - its really stunning in that area. If you google Fortingall you'll get some stunning images of Glen Lyon, which is on the other side of the mountains.

Yes I aspire to the Oldgirlruns and friends sort of scenario with a bite to eat and a sit down natter after a run. Wouldn't that be heavenly???

It’s highly recommended Fm!

Lovely, like you say there’s always pressure to match someone’s pace so glad you found a compatible runner x

I suspect she is normally a bit faster but chatting at the same time definitely keeps the lid on pace πŸ˜‰

Sounds lovely!I've never run with anyone else because a) I always think I'm too slow and b) my only friend who also runs lives 100 miles away!

Oh dear - that was me too until today. Maybe we'll find lots of running buddies when Park Run starts up again. I've never done one and so looking forwards to giving my pristine park run bracelet an airing.

Ooh you invested in one of the bracelets. That shows intent. Ive never done a parkrun either but did register after I managed my first 5k. I printed off my barcode last year - no idea where it is now....

Wonderful! What a lovely way to do a 5k. Sounds perfect 😊

Certainly was. I bet we looked hilarious talking way faster than we were running.... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It’s lovely to find new pleasures

For me, the joy of running is about being alone (apart from the dog) with my thoughts; letting go of the stresses of the day.

The idea of gabbing whilst running fills me with dread πŸ˜‚

Its one way of being sociable though. But it did interfere with breathing a bit.

Sounds so enjoyable Fionamags. I think you need more of these chatty runsπŸ‘πŸ‘

I think I'll see if she's interested in the Magic Plan!

How brilliant! I am too slow to run with anyone I know that also runs. Maybe when we move to England in August I'll find some tortoises to run with 🀣

Fionamags profile image
FionamagsGraduate10 in reply to WeavingWonk

Well it took us 44 mins to do 5k so no lightning was greased during that one 🀣🀣🀣

Sounds about my speed! Particularly if I was also talking! My runner friends all run sub 30 5ks. Even my friend in Yorkshire. But we've agreed we're going to run Parkrun together and she will just go on and finish and get the tea and bacon butties in while she waits for me to finish πŸ˜‚ She was an ultra runner until her knees got too bad (Run the Planet - Sahara Desert, Antarctica, etc) so now she limits herself to 10 mile runs.

That's how my friends used to cycle - at our own speed then meet in the pub for lunch! That works πŸ˜‰

Sounds great! I don't have anyone around here to run with except hubby but he's much faster than me so I only go with him for a challenge!!

What we need is a strava group after lockdown where folk could hook up for runs in different parts of the country and find folk at a similar pace. Not sure how that would work though....

Nice!!! And great to have a new way to run and a regular running appointment.
