One week, three runs, defrosted world ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฆ™

Three runs for me; one for M. Thereโ€™s a bit of a hiccough because Iโ€™m recalibrating my week to be in synch with my appโ€™s concept of โ€˜weekโ€™.

All runs with relaxed nasal breathing routine; attention to arms, body scans, and cadence. All with qigong warmup, plus 5-min warmup walk, 5-min cool down, and at-home stretches.

R1: 5.35km, 40:03 - Post-Arctic comeback run (after full weekโ€™s rest). Posted on Sunday, because I was so excited.๐Ÿ˜

R2: 5.03km, 39:15. Overcast and mild at 6-7 degrees, with rain starting at the end. 7.30 start. Like R1, I headed straight for the old lane, running its length three times with similar repeats on parallel streets, making a diversion to visit Maryโ€™s statue (now sadly surrounded by a circle of orange plastic barriers). I also looped around the minipark and orchards a few times. This is the land of noisy sparrows and (on this day) equally vocal starlings. My appโ€™s gps map looks a bit like a rectangular llama trailing a leash.๐Ÿฆ™ Maybe because Iโ€™d had just one rest day, or maybe because nearly all of this was on tarmac (a few short bits on hoggin), but I found myself feeling surprisingly sluggish. No matter, the app tells me that this is my fastest ever 5k, even though itโ€™s clear from R1 stats that my 5k on Sunday was faster by over half a minute.๐Ÿค” I took just two 30-second walk intervals, the first at c.3km. The splits are a bit erratic, but that seems to echo the miniparkโ€™s terrain, and, unsurprisingly, overall pace was a bit slower (7:49 min per km) than Sunday (7:29).

R3: 4.03km, 32:23. Mโ€™s comeback after a fortnight or so. Therefore, nearby park and on counterclockwise circuit. Also just after 7.30. Part overcast, part lovely sky, with a milky sunrise (photo); feels-like 3 degrees. Mud tracks quite firm; perfect running surface in many ways. Parakeets and crows made their presence known; gulls peppered the grass; tits darted about around the parkkeepersโ€™ compound. Full run, with no walk intervals, chatting with M for much of the time. Comfortable, steady, very relaxed and enjoyable - for me - and felt like it was all over in a jiffy. I reflected on how cadence adjustments help improve the run feel, even if they can also feel more tiring; an interesting paradox. Also liked thinking about feet lifting and lightness. We took things extra slowly, but M says he still found it tough. On the plus, his BP has responded well - and much more emphatically than it has to the indoor rowing heโ€™s been doing. Will see if this pattern continues... if, of course, he continues.

Hope everyone is doing well. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ Best wishes for weekend.

WooHoo! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Sounds like some good runs there ๐Ÿ‘

Did it feel strange, back running with M? Do you think he will continue?

It was a bit and really interesting to go back to the run-and-chat mode. It was probably mid-December since we last did that. If Iโ€™d have answered yesterday, I might have expressed some doubt, but this morning M remarked that he wants to get his running back on track.... so the prognosis is more optimistic today. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well done for getting another 3 runs in the bag- sounds like youโ€™ve got a good routine set up with your before and after exercises and stretches. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Thanks, B. Yes, it verges on ritual - in the good sense! Sometimes, I can feel Iโ€™m trying to hurry the first warmup (a mix of impatience and my keenness not to miss the sunrise). Silly really, because itโ€™s palpably clear that it makes a huge contribution to the whole feel of the run.

How are you doing this week?

Hi, Iโ€™m not too bad thanks- enjoying the week off for half term- got in my 3 runs - 5/7/5km but still finding Iโ€™m tired even though Iโ€™ve not overdone it with too frequent runs or long ones- Hopefully that next gazelle run is coming soon!

Iโ€™m sure it will. Itโ€™s great to hear that youโ€™ve managed 3 decent runs. ๐Ÿ‘ The tiredness could be lingering effect from covid, and/or all the busy days at work... so many possibilities. Take things gently and steadily and listen to your body.

Beautiful photo GailXrunning Well done on your morning runs. Iโ€™ve been trying to get out at 7:30am but have been settling for after 8am at the moment. Need the little ones fed and happy before I go out.Nice you had company on one of the runs too ๐Ÿ˜€

Iโ€™ve only the cats to feed, and thatโ€™s what they need to stay happy !! ๐Ÿ˜‰ So super easy for me on that front. Iโ€™m not sure how long Iโ€™ll be able to chase the sunrise as it gets earlier and earlier. The big plus of winter has been that dawn is within my reach! I do love it, though. M is even less inclined to rise early, but the chance to avoid the crowds has motivated him.

We are hoping to get a cat but not until my son is older. I grew up with a pet cat and they are great company! Enjoying the company of my little ones whilst I can as they are growing up quickly as it is! โ˜บ๏ธ

Last winter I enjoyed setting off for a run in the morning just as it was starting to get light then gradually seeing it get lighter and lighter as I ran.

Thanks... and I think he wants to get back into his running groove, which is great. Iโ€™ve (weโ€™ve) become earlier over winter. We tended to opt for 9.00 or 12.00 before that.
