Well, the morning started cool and without the forecast frost, for which I was profoundly grateful! Got going at 10am along the old railway line thinking, too late, that I should have started at the other end, to avoid the long slow slog back up the incline on the way back after my turnaround point 🙄.
Once I’d settled into my stride, all was well until crossing the old viaduct and that sneaky, nasty, bitter cold wind sprang up out of nowhere. I suddenly realised I couldn’t feel the tops of my arms because of the cold - just as I hit the start of the uphill climb 😩.
No matter, I was running this in memory of my best mate, and her long battle with cancer. She didn’t get the choice of giving up, so there’s no way I’m going to either. Plodded on to a slow but jubilant finish in 1hr15 mins.
I’m a tortoise but I don’t care - I’m just happy I completed the 10K and raised a bit of cash to help in the fight against the big C.

That tortoise just ran a brilliant run for such a good cause well done Fionn42
The one from the front was deeply unflattering as I had my gloves, buff and water bottle stuffed in my jacket pockets so I looked like a Weeble - made the OH delete that one 🤣🤣
Very well done! I had a similar motivation - my mother has just been diagnosed with cancer and when it got tough around 8k a simple reminder that this wasn't a tough as the road ahead of her got me through the next 2k. The overall total raised has been great!
Brilliant, well done you too. So sorry to hear that about your mum. We’ll keep fighting until we’ve kicked this rotten disease well and truly into the long grass.
A brilliant run Fiona, and I hope you raised lots for your charity. You certainly aren’t slow, I was only 1 1/2 mins ahead of you yesterday, and that was on the flat. That wind though 🥶
Ah thanks Dexy, that makes me feel a great deal better! There were a few other runners out yesterday - don’t think any were doing the winterrun, but all of them went batting last me at a rate of knots. I felt like a right old cart horse plodding in their wake!! 🐴🐌
Well done Fionn42 that's not slow and your mate would be so proud of you 😉
Fantastic run for you and a brilliant time! 👏👏👏👏👏 and well done for raising a bit of cash. Your friend would be well proud of you I’m sure.🏃♀️Give yourself a big pat on your back👍 You deserve it.🎉🎊
Well done 👏 great effort . Your not a tortoise 🐢 at the speed. Such a great worthwhile cause as have been down that route myself with cancer but all better now. 👏👏
