10k after injury help!

After falling down the stairs and hurting my back on Christmas Day (don’t ask) I’ve not been able to run like I use to. Ive been in pain and numbness in my leg only when I run mine you but the thing is I’ve literally got 16 days till my 10k charity run and I don’t know how on Earth I’m going to do it. Yesterday I returned to week 6 of the C25k and luckily my bad didn’t hurt, but up until this I could only run for 8 mins before having to walk. So any ideas on how in 16 days I can train to run this 10k? I really want to attempt it and I know I’ll prob have to walk some of it but really want to run more than half of it.

Ouch, this sounds like a big injury. Did you get it seen to? You can't fast track recovery and a charity run isn't important enough to cause long term problems. I'm sure any sponsors will understand you postponing under the circumstances especially as all events are virtual at the moment. Please do consider seeking professional advice about your injury. Take care 🤗

I totally follow Grannyhugs here. Have you been checked out by a doctor? Christmas day is not that long ago, meaning it is not that much time between then and now to have healed properly if anything has been injured badly. I give for example my mother. A few years ago she fell out of her bed during the night, had a bruise on her chest from the nighttable. She didn't bother to get checked out, just had a lot of pain. Fast forward half a year later, still having some problems and after an RX she had apparently cracked a rib! If she had known it right after her fall, she would have taken more care, avoided heavy lifting, etc. because of which it would have healed much faster. So let you be checked out and cancel the rub if the doc or your body says you can't run it. Your body is more important, because if healed properly you will be able to do more charity runs. But if you run this one and get injured even more badly, maybe you won't be able to run anymore!

Please see a doctor Dangiletta . Friend of mine slipped on stone steps and only got checked out a couple of days later when he was still in pain. X-rays showed he'd broken his back and he required rods and a plate to fix it. Yes, that's extreme, but since you say you're experiencing pain and numbness, there's clearly a problem. Running a charity 10k can wait.

Thanks for your concern. I have spoken to a dr and have had physio so it’s not as bad as it sounds. I also have a muscle condition so I know not too push myself too far, but yesterday gave me some hope. If I can do a 5k next week I might be ok but will play by ear. I pushed myself too far when I got shin splints but I realised I had to rest.

Small update. I smashed a 4K morning run today with no pain. I’m so over the moon. If I can do that again in 2 weeks and walk the rest I’ll be happy with that. Anything more would be a bonus. 😁
