Just a couple of weeks now until I reach my first year Runiversary and I need to pinch myself to check that I’ve not dreamt it all up, that I’m still going, loving it and wanting more.
With so little reduced social contact this year one of the joys of running has been the company of nature, the elements of course, plants through all stages of life, sunrises, sunsets and so many beautiful creatures.
Recently I’ve acquired 2 new running route friends; a couple of pigs recently appeared in a field along one of my regular tracks. I love it that when I call to them they come running over, actually run! yes 😁.... I think they’re still quite young.
This post was inspired by Buddy34 who recently posted some lovely pics of new friends, ....the sights and sounds of nature and fellow creatures on runs really lifts my spirits.
I wonder what friends you have out there and what they mean to you?
I used to regularly see a beautiful dog fox with a white tip to his tail on my early morning longer runs through the local nature reserve at the end of last summer. I haven't been that way for a couple of months now
Nothing constant on my runs. I miss being in the countryside where its wonderful to run with the seasons - watching how routes transform as trees green, bloom and then fade. I love your photos. I looked quickly and thought they were baby hippos!
I feel very lucky to have the runs I do even though most of my routes just aren’t safe to run at the moment like many of us. Hippos 🤣, how wonderful would that be 😃🤗
What wonderful companions. When we moved to our new village in the summer there was a lovely field of cows that would welcome me back from runs and lean over our fence for handfuls of grass. Unfortunately one day the farmer arrived with a large livestock lorry🤫 maybe we'll get new cattle in the spring 🙆♀️Looking forward to hearing about your runiversary run. Happy running 🤗
Thanks Gh, oh dear your cows 😟 I guess there is a downside to befriending the farmed animals. Yes I’ll have to plan something special for my runniversary, maybe bake a cake too 🎂🤗
Love your pics! You're very lucky to have made such wonderful new friends 🥰 I remember a documentary where the presenter visited someone with a litter of piglets and they behaved just like puppies! So cute 😍 seeing that was enough to make me stop eating meat.I only see birds along the seafront plus the occasional fly trying to get in my eye 🤣 congratulations on your upcoming runniversary! 🎉🏃♀️🥂
Thanks Beatles, yes I’ve had 2 very long periods of being vegetarian in my life and I’m moving toward a third now. Might not be able to avoid eating the occasional fly though 🤣🤗
Lovely post and lovely pics. On my seafront ploddles I've seen a seal, gannets, cormorants, a dead seal that the council men buried 😞 and millions of gulls ☺️
Recently I've seen long tailed tits, robins and wrens (in addition to the usual blackbirds). I also heard a jay screeching to let everyone know I was coming
My usual trails have a variety of wildlife to spot - different deer, wild boar, squirrels, various birds of prey and some 'normal' every day birds, plus there are a couple of big domestic pigs on one of routes and I've seen some slow worms in the summer. At the moment though, when I'm running around the village, it's just dogs and their owners.
