My whole family tested positive just after Christmas so we've been isolating for 14 days, and my husband (a very fit runner) has been really poorly with the virus. It wiped me out a bit, but not nearly so bad as him.
So today I decided to try a tentative recovery run with Coach Bennett called 'A New Run'. I thought I'd just run laps of my local park so I could run back home if I needed to. It was a struggle for the first 10 mins and the cold was really getting into my chest (first signs of my asthma I thought), but I slowed right down and continued. By the time I'd got to 20mins I was feeling so much stronger and CB was telling me to smile and think of the worst thing of this run. "You can get through this" he said, and low and behold, I did, with some energy left in my tank. So I finished the last lap of the park singing to 'Don't Stop Me Now', smiling and Strava telling me I'd run just over 5k in 35mins! Yay!!! How did that happen!!!
I'm sure I wouldn't have done that without Coach Bennett in my ear, but it's given me the boost I need to get out there and run again after feeling so fatigued and exhausted with Covid.
So to all you runners out there recovering from this wicked virus, take it gently, read some posts on this forum (that always helps!), maybe ask CB for some inspiration, and believe in yourself. You CAN do it

That sounds wonderful 👍 you managed to run 5k in such a fast time while still recovering from COVID 🏃♀️🏃♀️ and in the cold and miserable weather that we’ve been having 🙄🥶. I agree totally that CB is the best to listen to and also agree that to take it slowly is the way to go. Things will get better and the weather will get better so what’s the rush 🤗
I’m with you there- yesterday was my first day out after 19 days in isolation after my children got covid and then 8 days later I got it too. I had a running machine to keep things ticking along but after day 7 got hit with the migraine headaches and tiredness so I hadn’t ran for 5 days. I was like you, wondering if I’d have any energy but I was surprised how I bounced back ok - we must be tougher than we think!
Hello BambiGlad to hear you bounced back too and I hope your family are all feeling better now. We’re still not 100% but I plan on some short runs in the week and maybe a longer one on the weekend. I’ll take it easy though 🤩🏃🏻♀️😍
That’s a lovely thing to say thank you, last year I worked in distance and now feel i could keep going even longer but very slow, thinking of making the runs short and speed them up a bit and see what happens
So glad you’re on the mend from COVID, the news only gives you the bad stories. That was a brilliant 5k run considering it’s a recovery run, for me that would be a wish for run. I hope you’re hubby is feeling better too. Happy running 🤗
You beat COVID so can definitely reach 10 miles if you want to. Your 10k is sitting waiting for you. I did loads of 10ks in lockdown 1 then in August I just suddenly had the desire for 10 miles. Get cumulative distances in those legs🤗
Oh 58, I wondered where you were! I do hope you and your family recover from the s****y virus. A great new run too! I did that one the other day ☺️. Take it easy though.
Yes I had a bit of a blip around New Year but now slowly building up my miles, doing daily yoga now I’m sure is helping build strength and flexibility, as I want to try running a HM this year I’m trying to build up very slowly to try to avoid getting injured. 🤞🤗
Aww bless you, hope you and your husband feel much better soon. My 84yr old mum had it just before Xmas and was quite poorly, but she's bounced back really well, and I'm sure you both will. Take care.🏃♀️😷
A belated well done to you 58soon, I’m really glad to hear you’ve recovered from this awful virus. I hope your husband is feeling better. Coach Bennett is great at encouraging you to complete your run. I’m hoping to get back out there soon after an awful few weeks 👍
Thank you Couchphoenix - we're all on the mend now and I've actually managed 2 x 5ks this week.
I hope you're managing to see some brighter light after what you've been through last month. It's not exactly sunshine out there, but you have many supporters on this forum sending you love and positive thoughts, so remember that we're here to help you get back on your feet when you're ready.
I’m really pleased to hear that your all on the mend.
Thank you, for your support and kind words, it means a lot, it’s been a really tough time, mums funeral is on 26th January, cause of death was the virus. Taking comfort from the fact she passed peacefully at home. X
I'm so sorry to hear that the cause of your mum's passing was this deadly virus. That's so tough for you and your family. I do hope you are able to be at her funeral in person to celebrate her life, and then take her with you in spirit for years to come. x
