I haven't run since Saturday - I think that's the longest since starting c25k in April. 😨 It just seems hard to make time now I am back in work - but I was desperate to get out today.
I'd planned for a run this evening - in my new hi viz top again - but the sun came out as it got close to lunchtime so I decided to take an extended lunch break (I'll make the time up later) and go for a run.
It was cold - 2.9 degrees according to the sensor on the back wall of the house (in the sun) so I opted for my new Race at Your Pace compression top under another long sleeved top, tights, buff, gloves and buff sun visor.
I set my ELO playlist going (this is a current favourite) and set off. I don't have any aim for this run other than to run - I'd like to do a 6k but probably don't have quite enough time for that as I need to get back, stretched, lunched and showered in time for a meeting on Teams. Let's see...
I'm running along the road today again - see below for why. There is less traffic around than normal, but a lot more than I thought there would be considering we are all supposed to be staying at home.
I'm warming up a bit and so off come the gloves.
A bit later I feel a bit chilly around my midriff for some strange reason. I've never had that before. Then I notice my new compression top is riding up as I run. I pull it back down to my hips from around my chest.
And repeat...
And repeat...
Should I stop and try tucking the top into my tights? No I decide to keep going and just employ the occasional downward yank.
I haven't checked my watch to see my pace on this run as I've been trying to run by feel lately - but this run feels slow. I check the time and decide I can probably make 5.5k, so I opt for one lap of the Leisure Centre instead of my hoped for two.
Finishing my run I stop the watch - 5.41km. OK a slight miscalculation but never mind. I enjoyed my run - wardrobe malfunction notwithstanding - and I'm glad I came out. It was nice being in the sunshine. 🌞
Reaching home I have just enough time to do what I need before my meeting.
Checking the stats afterwards I'm pleasantly surprised to discover that my time over 5k was my 3rd fastest - so not that slow after all. 😁
The photo was taken in the woods on my wellie walk yesterday and is part of the route I used during c25k. I don't think I'll be running there for a while yet. The mud is ridiculous - I've not seen anything like it 25 years of living here - and there is standing water everywhere. We desperately need a few dry days.
Maybe I just have a weird body shape but next time I will try tucking my compression top into my tights to see if that stops it rolling all the way up my body as I run.

Good use of a lunchtime. That top sounds really annoying, I'm sure tucking it in should solve the problem. I've had the opposite problem with running tights slipping downwards, I'll only buy ones with a drawer string now 😂
Yes it restored my confidence a bit. I wasn't trying to be quick either which is a double plus. The top is that sort of material - you know kind of shiny elasticated sort of stuff like certain undergarments that some people wear 😂
I don't really know why but yes - its hard to get motivated at the moment. I'm a bit disappointed with the top as it feels and fits really nice apart from having a mind of it's own 😂
Tops are funny things aren’t they? sounds like a lovely run though and good pace, i like the idea of running by feel although think i might plod really slowly and get slower and slower, might give it a go on Saturday 😀
Thanks. You should try it. It's too easy to get a bit fixated by the stats. I still like looking at them but try not to bother with the numbers until after the run. It wasn't easy to begin with, but it's helped me to pace myself a bit better, though I've only ever managed perfect negative splits once!
Your photograph is beautiful Birdlady but I fully sympathise with you on the wet and mud, I am reduced to running on the single track tarmac roads at the moment and even some of those around the village resemble mud tracks, like you I have never seen so much water lying around, all my normal running tracks won’t be fit to run for sometime, tricky to even walk 😱. At least we can get out and don’t have the snow and ice to contend with like some of VRB’s. Hope you get your latest wardrobe acquisition sorted, I’ve just had a run in in injinji toe socks for the first time, so soft & comfy, might save them for best though 🤣 as they were a bit expensive! 🤗
Thanks.I had to keep waiting until nobody was close behind me or coming towards me and no cars to reach up under my top layer and pull it back down again.
Sounds like an annoying wardrobe malfunction Birdlady. But at least you had the prize of a good time at the end.The muddy paths are a real challenge this year aren't they. I don't have much choice to avoid them on my routes but they certainly slow me down.
Sorry, I've been missing posts recently. I must 'follow' you! I hate it when I have to keep adjusting clothing. Good for you doing a lunchtime run! Before breakfast is my favourite time, but when I'm running again I will go out at lunchtime I think.Lovely pic of the muddy woods and well done on your speedy run!
