Here we go! Chasing the 10k dream

I set a challenge of consolidating my 5k distance for a month, only to fall at the last hurdle and injure myself. My good friend Sally is a physiotherapist and kindly squeezed me in before Christmas and reassured me the ankle wasn’t sprained, just a pulled muscle - phew! Took a week off, but finished the last of my consolidation runs on...Christmas morning!

Set off nice and early after popping the turkey in the oven. Felt a bit smug but also was almost asleep by 8pm!

Did my first longer run of 6k today which felt strong all the way through - perhaps fuelled by the vast enormity of carbohydrates consumed. Eating light from now on as I feel as though I’m the old lady who swallowed a horse.

10k here I come!

Cracking stuff and that ankle looks as good as new she's-evolving 👍👍 are you following the juju 10k plan?

Thank you - I am! 🏃‍♀️

It's tried and tested and you'll be reaching further distances before you realized 🥳

Great news about the ankle - they’re so easily pulled and sprained. Congratulations on getting to 6k.

Imo: Little is as perfect (and as smug-making) as that run-induced sleep. A bit snooze at 8 is a price worth paying!🏃🏻‍♀️🥱🥱😴💤

I’m eager to try and fulfil the 10k in the new year too but I still struggle to complete the 5k at ease. Just wondering what programme you’re going to be following for the 10k and also how long it took you of consistent running to achieve running the 5k no problem? 😊

I’m following the magic plan for 10k as it seems nice and gentle! I started running 5Ks the week after I graduated C25K. I wanted to focus on building up stamina so didn’t concern myself with speed, plodding the 3.1 miles at my own pace. I considered it mentally: if I could do the 30 mins of week nine I could totally do another ten/fifteen minutes to build up to a 5K! With a month of consolidation I have trimmed time down to 31.12 without really trying!

Perhaps build up to an easier 5K by adding 2 minutes of running a week onto the 30 min distance until a 5k because comfortable? All the best! 😊🏃‍♀️

Ah yes that’s a great idea re adding the two minutes on each time. I will try that. I must admit I don’t get to go out three times a week, so I think if I’ve tried to get out once more a week my stamina would no doubt improve. Itching for that next challenge now 😊😊 well done on achieving yours 😁👌🏻

That’s my plan too - 10K. Can’t believe I’m saying that 😳. Hope the ankle holds up.

Well done 6k! Ju-jus plan is an ideal stepping stone, you'll be at 10k before you know it🎉
