Today I returned to Parkrun to run with company. I felt a bit stiff when I woke up this morning and thought actually company on a run may make it more enjoyable for me today.......And why not?! 😍
So I arrive at said Park but there’s no parking! 😦! Well none left for me anyway. The usual area is closed off. So I desperately search for a spot to squeeze in, but without much luck. It took me about 10 minutes to find parking and they’d already started. With the tail walker up ahead in the distance. Never mind...I’m here and I’m running!! 🏃🏾♀️
So, music on I catch up and run through gently until I feel relaxed. A lot of runner/walkers that ran, then I ran past them as they walked and then they ran past me again after a bit. I had to focus on my own run, as I started to imagine them stopping again in a bit. It’s definitely a different experience from there. I made it to the mainly runner/runners and sort of stayed around there for the rest of the run.
It was a challenge for me today as I felt I was running a bit stiff and there were times when I sort of felt a bit lazy and thought I might just walk a bit. I just did my own little mind trick and set my little goal points ahead and said “you can stop and walk if you want, after you just get there”! 🤓 But I didn’t!
Another stopping moment came when I was about 1k from the finish. Phone charge went. Checked the headphones but not the phone! I know...another “doh” moment!! 😅 To be honest it doesn’t bother me. The unexpected is part of my running fun!! 🤩 So the emergency DJ comes out 🗣 and I start singing a power song in my head! 🎤 Works!!! 👌🏽! It put a smile on my face and a spring in my step to bring me home! 🏁
I’ve no idea what my stats are and how my late start will affect my Parkrun stats, but as usual I don’t care! 🤷🏽♀️! I ran because this girl can!! 🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️
Edit: I just checked and got a PB for the event 37:36! Now that’s a surprise, I felt I was pretty slow. 17th in my age category and I’m very happy!
Fastest 5k since I started running is 36:05, just not at Parkrun! A minute off today isn’t too bad at all. 😍❤️

did you have the cheaters who bring a four-legged Canine-motor to get them up the hills? And I'm sure those baby-buggies are powered, else why would they all go past me?
That reminds me of a bit of a funny situation with one dog owner. Most dogs are absolutely no trouble and I love seeing them. However, there was one young lady who'd run for a few weeks with a Canicross waist/hip harness, that her backside gradually munched over the two laps, to the point she probably needed a crochet hook to extract it by the end. The only reason I'd noticed this particular wardrobe malfunction was she'd sprint past me and a few others, but the dog would then dart sideways across the path - causing evasive action by any runners she'd just overtaken - and they'd stop while the 'dog' got his breath back. So we'd all file past, and they'd set off again... only to repeat the exercise a few yards further along. It was entertaining, but it was also around then I decided I needed to try to start up the field a bit 🤣
I’m one of those cheaters, theoldfellow! Except my dog has given up trying to pull me up our killer hill and now walks (yes) alongside me while I run oh-so-slowly!! 😅😅🏃♀️🏃♀️🐕🐕🐌🐌
Well done Fabulous. A tricky start but you came through to get a pb, that's amazing!
I experienced technical difficulties just as my park run started this morning, my music and Nike run app both turned themselves off! I tried to sort them out whilst slowly trotting along, but had to stop in the end to sort them, so I was right at the back of the pack as I rounded the first corner. Like you I worked my way up the field as the run progressed, but I just wasn't feeling it today. I ran the whole way, despite the gremlins in my head trying to persuade me otherwise and came in with a time of 35.49. Which us 40 seconds off my pb.
Where is your local park run?
Would love the opportunity to run with some friends from here?
That’s absolutely brilliant Sandi! Malfunctions be warned, we Runners will carry on regardless!! 😉The Parkrun is at Lydiard Park, Swindon. Is that close by? Well done for the PB! Fantastic!! ❤️
I'm all up for a bit of park run tourism, and wull be trying out a few that are local to me; but leaving here at 6am to get to Swindon in time to run is pushing it! Haha!
Yay well done on your PB Fab! One of these weeks I might actually make a park run if both my children miraculously don’t have activities on the same day 😆
🤣🤣! It wasn’t out loud Shakeywakey! There’s only so much runners can cope with!! I have 36:05 as my all time PB, but 37 today was my Parkrun PB. Really happy with it, as I was a bit achy and I thought slow. But not that bad really!! Just glad I did the 5k and I saw Equi-geek and another VRB! Great start to the day!! 😁❤️
Aaah, thank you so much! 🤗 I will try not to though, the walk/runners were a little distracting! It made stopping while moving heavy legs a little too tempting too. 😂❤️
A lie in on Saturday morning is always tempting, but I did get there for 9, honest! 😀 The closed parking area caused absolute chaos! 😲 There were 484 runners there today. 😁❤️
Ah thanks so much Sybilw! If I find myself feeling frustrated, I can find the humour in the it. After all, bottom line.......I’m running....Me? 😯 Will I learn from it? Yes, I’m still learning (not that I won’t ever make the same mistakes mind 😂). Would it be the end of the world? No! 😁! I ran! 🏃🏾♀️🙌🏽!
Parkrun is brilliant to remind you, you’re one of so many doing this running thing. I’m not the fastest, nor the slowest 🙌🏽, but I’m in the mix......running. Taking this up so late has me smiling lots (even minus the music)! This, like every run, is soon history, so let’s make the most of these adventures. 🤩❤️
