8k Nearer To My First Race At Your Pace Medal

A dark wet and for some reason tough 8k this morning, wasn’t really feeling it today, but managed to complete 8k towards my first Race At Your Pace Medal. I was pleasantly surprised at my pace, it certainly didn’t feel that quick.

Tinytears60 aka Competitive Annie, put me on to this and I quite like the concept. You basically register and set yourself a challenge to cover a distance of your choice over a given month. You pay a modest fee of £10 or so and once you’ve completed your goal and emailed them your evidence you get a nice decent quality shiny medal in the post. For a few pounds extra this can be personalised. They also do a nice range of running tops, which I also went for at just £6.95.

Knowing you’ve set yourself a challenge is another motivating factor to help get you out there and running plus you get another medal to add to your collection 🏅👀

I’ve set myself a goal of 35 miles this month, but it’s flexible and you can change this at anytime, so I’m tempted to increase it as I’ve almost reached that already 🤔 move over Competitive Annie, make way for Competitive Archie !

Happy Running Everyone 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A good challenge and a good run in this foul weather, hard runs strengthen us

That’s true, the tough ones definitely increase our mental strength.....much needed in my case 🤪

You did better than us, we looked out the window, had a bath, baked mince pies, went shopping and wrapped presents lol, working all weekend so it might be a short dark run if not pouring with rain

Mince pies 🥧 and wrapping pressies 🎁 sounds good to me 🤗 I’m sure you’ll squeeze a run in when the weather improves 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Very well done. Great running and yes it is great having a Challenge. Although I am fully Virtual everything exhausted after this year. I can't wait for the real thing. Wait until you do a parkrun and start chasing after PB's, do a 5K and a 10K road race. Nothing like the real thing in a crowd of people and heading to a Cafe afterwards for a well deserved breakfast with friends. I am looking so forward to those simple pleasures again. Best of luck on your 35 mile challenge.

Thank You... Sounds great, I’m new to running, having completed C25k earlier this year, so I’ve yet to experience a park run, fingers crossed for 2021 🤞

Thanks Grannyhugs, 😊 if I do increase it, it won’t be by a huge amount. Happy Running to you too 👍

Well done, a good solid 8K ! 👍Hmm.... Race at your pace ?

Sounds interesting, might check it out 😁

Thanks Instructor57 👍 Give it a go, maybe set yourself a challenge for January 2021. The medals are very nice and the running tops look good quality too and they’re not expensive. Tinytears60 has been pleased with the ones she’s had.

I've been doing the Race at Your Pace challenges for a few months now, they're great aren't they and the medals are lovely. They are usually themed to the month, so this one will be festive. If you do want to change your distance, you only have until the 25th of the month so don't forget 😮

A great run for you this morning, well done 👍👏👏🏃

Thanks for letting me know, I’m new to this so still learning, but the medals look great. A festive medal sounds good to me 👍🏅

Well done Mister - and sometimes the tops are included free with your entry ( check January as I think it applies then)Great run 👏👏👏

I have medal envy but no way could I commit to a December challenge 🙈😢

😂😂 Trust you to have medal envy......mind you it’s the best one I’ve seen, I think they said it was a gold plated limited edition one 😉

Great run. The weather is horrid here - it's absolutely howling and it's really doing nothing to entice me out. Good luck with your challenge - maybe increase it a little bit, but not too much?

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Thanks Birdlady64, it was raining when I went out this morning, mild though. I didn’t mind it as it kept me cool. I won’t increase it by too much if I do, only thinking about it at the moment. I’d like to do a few more next year though.

Well done on getting out there today!

I was going to try and squeeze in a short run during a mere drizzly period...by the time I was ready, it was hammering down...so no way! 😫😬☔️

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to LottieMW

Thanks LottieMW😊 it was a bit of a push, but worth it in the end. Like you I’d have given it a miss if it was hammering down, can’t get my hair wet 😉

Thanks Rebecca 😊 I was surprised at that pace as it didn’t feel that quick. The NRC Run was entitled ‘A Grateful 8k’ I was grateful when it came to an end today to be honest 😂. The Running medals and tops look really nice, maybe you’ll be tempted to try it in 2021.

It was a fantastic time.

Lol, that is funny, I have been feeling like that on my last run of the week!!

It looks really good I have had a look at their website and great to have something to focus on. What did you do after Ju Ju’s magic plan?

Rebecca

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to 9weeks2Run

I didn’t use the magic plan, I just gradually increased my distance to 10k using the NRC guided runs, then 13k then eventually 10 miles. I’d love to be able to eventually reach half marathon distance, so maybe 2021 I’ll focus on that, but I just like getting out there and running.

That is brilliant Geoff, wow so you are running just under 17km that is fantastic. You will do that HM!!

Yes I know what you mean.

Enjoy your next run and thank you for all your advice

Thanks swim63, it’s nice to receive a medal at the end of the month to reward you for all your efforts. I’ll probably set myself one of these challenges from time to time. The running tops look decent quality too and are very reasonably priced. Maybe you could be tempted to give it a go yourself in 2021 ?
