I completed my week seven run one on Tuesday. I had such a busy day and could only get out in the evening and decided to run 5km. I was feeling tired and felt like I had a bit of a cold, been sneezing, runny nose and my postnasal drip has been bad (gets worse when at work as I wear masks for 12.5 hours) but I wanted to do my run so I could stay on track. Unfortunately my Fitbit did not register the KM or the lapse of my run (noticed half way through) but I knew the route so was able to judge my distance. I did not want to be out too long so I decided to run at a bit faster pace and completed my run in 28 minutes which I was delighted with and pleased to have done my first run of the week.
This afternoon I ran my second 9K. It was such a lovely afternoon and I was looking forward to going out for a run and managed to get a rest yesterday afternoon. After Tuesday’s run I was not sure if my Fitbit was going to work but I knew 3 times and a bit round the park would be 9K. I felt much better today, not so tired. My plan was to take things steady and not worry about timings and if I did feel tired to stop at 4K.
I started of nice and slow and felt fine, watch did not bleep as it normally does after each 1k so I took that as my watch was not working again. I was not going to let that distract me so I just enjoyed the scenery and listening to my music. I kept it steady again the next lap round the park and was glad to start the 3rd lap and at this stage felt confident I would be able to do this. Coming towards the end of the third lap I glanced at my watch and saw it was working!! I had ran 8.34km so I decided to push a bit harder to get to my 9k as at this point I did feel tired and was pleased to reach the 9k!!!
My time was 53.09 so 18 seconds slower than my first 9k and my splits were: 6:11, 6:08, 5:55, 5:52, 5:54, 5:50, 5:44, 5:47 and 5:35. It felt great to have my second 9km under my belt and now just one 4km run to complete on Sunday to finish week Seven. I don’t know if anyone else felt like this but I feel a little worried starting week 8 as I feel exhausted after 9k and I am doubting myself that I can run 10k yet, as I can’t imagine finding the extra energy to run the final 1km. I imagine I do need to slow down and pace myself better but would appreciate any advice.
Take care and Happy Running

Brilliant 9k. Your last paragraph was just the advice I was about to give. You will undoubtedly do many 10k runs in the future, and much longer. Your first one does not have to be your fastest🤣 take care, slow down also for your 2 short runs and you'll find your 10k run no problem. Happy running 🤗
Oh, well done, Rebecca! You must be so pleased to run your second 9K, even if you were a bit under the weather. 👏👏👏👏🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️👍
You’re so nearly there, now! Of course you will be able to run 10K. It’s only one km more. I know, it’s sometimes the hardest km 😊. I don’t run as fast as you do, so can’t advise you too much. I think if you start relaxed, you will have more stamina to carry you through. Coach Bennett is always talking about starting relaxed 😊 And don’t be afraid to ease off for a bit during the run, if you think you should. Ebbing and flowing.
Don’t be worried, it’s like graduation, be excited! You’ve prepared yourself by doing the Magic Plan. It’s what you’ve been working for. You’ll be ready! 💕
Thank you so much Julia for your advice and support. That is a good idea regarding not being afraid to ease of a bit during the run. I think I will stick to running round the park as find the laps help me to visualise how much more I have left to run but I am looking forward to running different routes.
Yes you are totally right I should stop worrying and feel excited, the plan is so amazing as is this group and all the support.
Blimey, your flying with those times 🥵 well done, not really in a position to give advise, as i've not really followed any plan, post c25k, i'm sure you'll get that extra 1k done, have you tried running slower, or maybe that's just your natural pace now 🤔 i just find the runs more enjoyable, keeping it slow, but heh, what do I know, only been at this running thing, 14 weeks 🤣 but what I do know, is how good I feel for it!!! ☺
Thank you for your advice. Yes I am going to slow it down now, relax and enjoy the run and hopefully I will be able to get that extra 1km and run my first 10k.
Wow that is amazing that you have managed to run 10k in 14 weeks very impressive, congratulations 👏👏⭐️⭐️
Like I say, i'm no expert, far from it, slow just works for me, although, just done a 30 min run, and actualy increased my pace, average 7.51/km, which for me, is quite fast! 🤣
I can’t advise really...I’m naturally a 🐌...hence I’m doing the timed plan...but have you tried a slightly slower pace?
My understanding of the 2 plans are: for the distance plan...you do the distance, however long it takes. For the timed...you run the time, it doesn’t matter how far.
So you have run 9k in 53:09...I only covered 5.68k for my 55 minutes in W6 last week!
I think the long distance running is about building up stamina and endurance...so we really need to pace ourselves. My average pace yesterday for my 30 minutes was 8:51/km...last Friday’s 55 minutes was 9:32/km, so even for me there’s quite a difference...🐌 to super 🐌 😂
Many thanks LottieMW, for your advice you are so right about building up stamina and endurance. I am going to focus on that and I am really going to slow down so I will be able to increase my distance.
You are doing so amazing, I hope you have a great next run.
I can do bursts of speed at that pace, but at the pace I'm averaging (about 6'25"/km) I'm knackered too, and I've only got to 6.5km so far. (Hoping to get to 10km by the end of January.)
Many thanks nowster it is funny as when I am running it does not feel fast but I do feel it till that last km but I am going to really focus now on slowing down and getting that 10km.
I do feel more tired though the last few weeks I must say.
Runners World has a training pace calculator which may help you. When I did Ju Ju’s plan I used it to calculate my running pace. I ran the shorter run at my tempo pace and the 5k and longer run at my easy pace. Now I just run to heart rate so it’s all pretty slow. Well done. You’re doing great ❤️🏃♀️
Amazing progress already. You sure are running at quite a pace! I’ve only just reached 5k, so my advice is from very limited experience, but I would say slow down. Presumably, at any stage, this is relevant. It’ll preserve the extra energy to complete the plan and enable you to enjoy yourself... which is what you want. Have a fab final week!
Thank you so much GailXrunning for your advice, I can really see now that I do need to slow down and preserve the extra energy.
I am feeling more confident now from all the advice and will be running slower.
Many congratulations on completing 5k that is fantastic. I often think about how I was so exhausted on week one Run one of C25K both plans really are so amazing.
You’re spot on, if you ease off on the pace you’ll complete 10k and more besides easily, your running at a very quick pace at the moment but distance requires you to ease off a little and conserve your energy. You can always finish with a flourish if you feel you’ve got something left in the tank.
12.5 hour shifts wearing a mask sounds tough, I’m assuming you work for the NHS ?
Thanks for that Geoff. Yes need to slow down and pace myself better, that is my goal for next run as want to be able to run 10k at the moment I am exhausted at 9k so will be slowing down.
I am a palliative care nurse and work at a Hospice
You’ll reach it easily Rebecca it’s all about pacing yourself, just slow down a little and relax. I thought you were probably working in the nursing profession, those are such long shifts. I admire you working in palliative care, that must be very rewarding but also very tough sometimes.
Well done 9weeks2Run. What an achievement! You're so close to that elusive 10k now. And your pace is amazing! I ran my fastest 4k by a long way this week, but then my next run (a 5k) was a killer and my legs felt like lead. So for my next 9k, I'm going to take it really slowly. We're almost there! 😍🤩😍🤩😍
Thank you so much!!!Ah that is wonderful massive well done to you on running your fastest 4K but sorry the next run was tough. I find it amazing how you can run your further distance at the end of the week that is so impressive.
Yes we are nearly there!! Feeling excited about it now!! Oh I will be taking it very slow as well!!! Lots of luck for your 9k. Happy Running
