Hi Roseabi!I wasn't very confident this morning about beating last week's time of 5.06, especially as I was still shaking off the last remnants of a cold, but I set out in hope and anticipation.
The result.......(insert dramatic pause).......my fastest ever km - 4.50! Woohoo!!π
My time this week was 6m35s. Thanks very much for organising this - it was great and has really helped me see a different side to my running. Happy Christmas! S x
Hi roseabi we are bowing out, been laid low with a bug since Friday and still unwell today so missed week 3 and canβt see week 4 happening, thanks though for organising this itβs made us realise with a bit of a push we can run faster on short runs so once well again will keep the one k faster up to see where it leads us
Hi.I had to miss week 3 but todays run was 6.24 so slower than week 2. Hoping for a fast run end of this week which will complete the challenge and you never know it could be a PB. π πͺ
OMG Charlies1 well done! Iβm planning on running mine tomorrow and the weather is meant to be foul. π¦π¦π¦ Iβll give it a go regardless! ππ»πββοΈπ
Oh I was slower this week π but I'm confused with my strava result. So I've been reading the bit where it tells you each km speed, - km 3 of 4 is the one I do fast, which has been fine and this morning my time was 5.03. However, I also had an award for fastest km at 4.55 so not sure where I did that?!! But I'll enter 5.03 please to keep in line with rest of readings!!! Thank you for organising this, it has kept me motivated π
Strava's best effort calculations are not related to your splits. Your 4:55 was simply the fastest km you ran during the whole run: support.strava.com/hc/en-us... Your splits are where you record your Speed Challenge run as you say, but that 4:55 proves that you can run fast!! Well done xxx
Thank you for taking part in the Challenge! You have been amazing, and here is your graph: drive.google.com/file/d/1IY...
The strava thing is confusing, not sure how they make it up. I had a pretty poor run but managed a 2nd best effort PB. Not sure if it is a rolling distance or a peak pace over a distance.
As it says in the link I shared above, it is your fastest km (or whatever distance) within your run, and is not related to your splits. It may seem not to match the run you remember because it is based on your elapsed time (not your moving time), and it may also be subject to GPS error.
Last 1k in 6:21 for me last night, which nearly ended me. I think going much faster than this disagrees with the metalwork; I'm so sore all over today! Enjoyed the challenge though πππ€.
πYAY!!!!! ππ.... Phew...π₯΅ a lumpish run π π¦ but I DID it and have finally have beaten my Week 1 time so won't have another minus! Please log my PB of 6.12 for 1km . I'm really pleased and will try not to feel too awkward about self-congratulation - having listened well to Coach Bennett who told me to feel pride in my own achievements as well as those of others!
Anyway, not only have I succeeded in what I set out to do, I can now look forward to a longer, gentle run on Thursday with no pressure (other than the need to count Christmas treesππ , or sing Christmas songs, or any of the challenges on the Bingo card!!).
Am giving the gremlins a well-deserved day off from their endless task of berating and undermining me - though it would have been nice to have run better and stronger..... Nope, they can have the day off and I will get on with making the most of my post-run positivity and some unexpected sunshine!
Oh wow!! Thanks very much - for organising the whole Challenge and for such brilliant βreportingβ of our results. Itβs been fun to take part! Cheers!
This has been great to watch and almost be a part of (I think I over did the first run sadly and found it a pain in the bum literally). Been struggling a bit with a sore left βcheekβ (sorry TMI I am sure). Seems like next time I will have to make sure I am properly warmed up before sprinting!!
Everyoneβs improvements have been impressive and inspiring. Iβll have to try again soon
You can try again! As long as you have had a day (or more) of rest before you try.
But you have been doing really well! You had a very big improvement between your baseline and your next run, and you pretty much held it steady for the third run. Don't be so hard on yourself xxx
Thanks! I seem to have found a competitive streak that I never knew I had , but you are totally right of course. My baseline run was a big improvement in the first instance as well (>40 seconds) so I'm pretty happy overall.
No PB for me this week - I hereby declare that Charlies1 wins the Charlie Cheeky Challenge!
Not that I didnβt try, but walking up to the top in the pouring rain, I was acutely aware that the wind wasnβt going to be on my side today.π¦π¨
Soooo, final score for Week 4 is 5:05. Iβm still mighty pleased with that in the conditions and I wonβt try to better it this week. I want a warts and all result!
Thanks roseabi you pushed me right out of my comfort zone for 4 weeks in a row! πππ
Seriously wet and windy! 2 matching times, you were faster in the first run, i was faster in the last one - I think we should call the Charlie Cheeky Challenge a draw π
Hi roseabi. I did my 1km fast yesterday and achieved 6:02 minutes for the 1km.. I did last weeks too. That was 6:16 minutes so not very different. I know you've finished now - but I will try again on my runs in the next two Tuesdays. Thanks.
As well as being lots of fun πthank you roseabi for organising, this challenge has helped me put things in perspective. I ran all out this week at my very upper limit and could not have sustained the pace for much longer than 1k. I would have to run 5k at that pace and still wouldnβt finish in 30 mins. So this challenge has helped me to put that foolish notion to bed and embrace my own pace as a short 50 something woman πHaving said that, Iβm chuffed to bits at the pace Iβve achieved over these 4 weeks as I originally was hoping for 7 something!
I do think you may be selling yourself short, you have only been running for a few months! However you are right in that it doesn't really matter how fast you run 5 km, and it is far better to enjoy your exercise and develop a permanent running habit xxx
Thanks - don't you just love a graph going in the right direction?!?! All best for the festives, however all you & yours do that this year π€ππ x

I have stated that they are YouTube videos, and I have used these links because I don't want the videos embedded in the post (they make the post VERY long!).

Hello Roseabi and fellow speedsters. What a beautiful morning for running in Southsea today . Only a 6mph breeze so it was purely down to person power today. Really pleased to say that I ran 5:33 which is the same as my 2nd run, but it was a much steadier pace, without the help from a strong westerly wind, and I felt much better at the end of it. Perhaps I could have gone just a little faster? Maybe at the next challenge....
By the way , my 7:07 hasnβt been added for week 3 - perhaps because I didnβt really go for it!
Well done everyone, itβs been fun virtually running with you all.
Perfect conditions on the prom this morning and a better pace profile, keeping a bit of a lid on at the start, resulting in a mile time of 7'06". So 3 secs inside my previous best, and an age-grading of 78.31%! Very happy with that π.
Thanks for the challenge this month. Almost looking forward to the next one π. So over to Marathon to chase 20.20k starting on Monday .....
Happy Crimbo to you and all the others Mods and Mentors, great job all year.
For some reason Iβve managed to miss a week Roseabi so am only going to get 3 speed runs in. My run this morning was 8.26, a whole 17 seconds off my first one - a snail can be happy with that! Thanks for organising!
Hi - my time for this week was 5:40 for the km. So not as quick as last week, but not too bad considering have not managed that many runs in the last couple of weeks π Will try for the 20.20 km before the end of the year though - hopefully be easier once have a few days off work!
Hi there. Bit slower for me at 5:41 but I'm happy with that .It was dark and when I set off after work I was totally lacking in energy _ but now I am feeling great_ floating on a post run high towards a hot shower followed by a meal and a glass of wine!I have really enjoyed the challenge thank you_I certainly wouldn't have gone out tonight without it! Thanks again!
Hi roseabi, I missed last week but managed to do this yesterday and got a 5.57. I'm really happy to have broken the 6.00 barrier and that it is my fastest of the challenge, and, my fastest ever!
Thank you so much again for organising this and I hope you have a wonderful Christmasππ π€Άπβπ¦
My time this week was 6:12 .... slower than last week but quicker than week 1 and 2 ... so Iβm content with that.
Unfortunately I had planned an out and back route ... to run out with the fast one on 4th km, then slow jog back. Gave it my all and had nothing left ... so was a long 4km walk home π€£... wonβt do that again!
Thank you for organising .... it was tough but I have enjoyed pushing myself π
Well done to all who took part and Merry Christmas ππ πΌ
Bit late for me this week- I've done all the others on a Monday - but delighted to report in with 5:40, which if memory serves is 14s off my best time from week 2. Felt tough this week but I enjoyed the challenge of pushing myself: thanks for organising it π
You did amazingly! Your second run was 22 seconds above your baseline, so keeping that up was going to be hard! But all of your runs were still well above the bench - so a massive well done to you!!!!!!
Hi roseabiMy time for this week was 4.57. Best yet over these four weeks, so I'm happy with that. Been using the 4 Mile run on NRC for all these. Good ole Coach Bennett
π. Thanks for organising, its been a good challenge π
Hi roseabi. Headwind again this week pushing me back and making it difficult to get a breathing rhythm (I'm trying not to make excuses honestly!) so unfortunately my slowest 1km of the set. Still, it's still not too shabby for me so I'm not going to complain - bang on 5:00.Hope you have a lovely Christmas and thank you for setting this and all the other challenges up this year, you and the others in the admin team have really helped keep us motivated this flippin' difficult year!
Hi Roseabi. My 1k speed run yesterday was 5:21. I was hoping to go faster but was still very windy and had to do lots of people dodging. Thank you so much for doing this challenge, it's been good to focus a little about how to run faster π
Hi Roseabi, Iβve finished the Speed Challenge this morning with a 1K time of 5:03!πββοΈπ₯ You might remember Iβve used the 5th km of the same route each week. My benchmark run was 5:51 so Iβve done quite well. I would have liked to get under 5:00 but I didnβt quite get thereπ Never mind, Iβm sure Iβll manage it one dayπ€ Thanks for giving me the motivation to try running faster at the end of my runsπ
Aw, you're too kind! Thanks for all your support. I must say today's 5k felt comfy especially the final 2k. Love it when it feels like that! Thank you for arranging this π
Hi Roseabi :my final run was 6.24 1km. I really thought I was going to do it today but I think my 20k walk yesterday just tired my legs out too much!!Still I enjoyed the challenge so thank you.
5. 33 this week, so a small improvement! Thank you for organising this challenge with all the extra work involved! I am going to continue with the challenge, but maybe with a shorter distance, which i can increase over time.
hiya, 5.30 this week, , but OMG it was hard I didnt realise I had trained so hard the last few days, and my muscles hurt and my legs felt like lead! Lessons learned, sometimes I guess a need a bit more gentle exercise between runs sometimes!
Thank you so much for organising this, been a brilliant challenge!!
Iβm going to have to miss the final run tomorrow as Iβve been unwell but Iβll do one tomorrow or Tuesday just to see if I can get under 3.30. Thank you so much Roseabi for organising this and making me run even faster than I thought possible! I love challenges like this. π
Sorry to hear you've been unwell!! If you're happy with your result tomorrow (doesn't look like the weather for it right now!) I think we should squeeze it into the Challenge results xxx
