Hi lovely runners and walkers!!!

It's Time to GO 2020 - let’s see this unbelievable year off! Strong!!! Here are the details of our final challenge of 2020.

This is a DISTANCE challenge, with both an individual element and a community

element.

We’ll count runs and walks.

β˜… Individual challenge

How many ways can you β€˜run/walk 2020’?

Some ideas to get you started :

> run or walk 20.20miles, 20.20km or 20m 20s …

> run or walk an elevation of 𝟸̢𝟢̢𝟸̢𝟢̢ 20.20m ...

> find and photo two houses numbered 20 ...

> write 2020 as Strava/GPS art …

Do take photos and post them to the forum for inspiration (we can’t add photos in comments yet, so you will have to write your own post to show us your pics). How creative can we get? Who can come up with the most different ways to achieve β€˜2020’?

β˜… Community challenge

From 21st to 31st December (inclusive) you can eat, drink and make merry … or do some stressful last minute Christmas shopping … or you can help us reach our combined 2020 kilometres target (or all three!). If there are enough of us taking part could we make 2020 miles? πŸ€”

β˜… Admin points

*** Submit your results in kilometres ***

I’ll put up a new post each day of the challenge.

Add your daily distance in the comments - in kilometres please (or did I already mention that?).

I will tally them as we go and give you the latest running total at the start of each day.

It doesn’t really matter which day your distance was achieved/posted so long as it is run and recorded within the challenge dates of 21st to 31st inclusive, and is only submitted once!!! If you prefer to wait until the end of the challenge and submit just one total, that’s fine too, but daily totals will let us know just how close we are to smashing the target distance.

Time to GO 2020.

Good luck everyone. We can do this!!!

I’ll be back with our first post on Monday 21st December.

The Marathon team xxx

Is there a way of plotting a design on Strava? I’d be happy to give it a go! 🀣

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

You can use the 'Explore' 'Create route' option (not sure if that's a summit feature or not?). If you can't do it in strava then Rungo is free, or plot a route or komoot ... you can't import routes back into strava, but you can use Rungo or Komoot to give you voice navigation via the mobile app πŸ‘

What fun 🀩 Yes! As I’m aiming to do a 20K in the next few weeks anyway I’m sure I could stretch it to 20.20! Count me in and I’ll get my creative juices flowing......

I'm in! I'll be taking it easy because I'll be just out of quarantine but every mile (km!!) counts ;)

Absolutely, no place for pace in a distance challenge. Just imagine how delicious every kilometre will be after two weeks isolation too!

Ooh yes, I'm definitely up for this, it will round off the Festive Bingo fun nicely. πŸ‘πŸ‘

linda9389 profile image

... And shouldn't detract from it either hopefully. The bingo has been great πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Thank you, I'm so glad you've been enjoying it. 😊

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Forest_Run_Beginner

If I'm being honest ... what I've enjoyed is everyone else enjoying it (I'm not running at all because of a hip niggle), but it's made for some good reading for me and a lot of fun and motivation for others. If by some miracle I'm on the road again in time, I'll see what I can do!

Forest_Run_Beginner profile image
Forest_Run_BeginnerMarathon in reply to linda9389

Enjoying it vicariously through others is definitely allowed. And if you are able to walk or cycle still, you could bring some of them into those instead - it's an all inclusive bingo card πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸŽ…πŸ€ΆπŸ¦ŒπŸŽ„β›„

I've been a bit absent on here recently but I'm still running through various aches and ailments! I'll add what I can to the mix.

Good to hear that you are still managing to run, and hope everything else is going in a good direction for you. Every little helps for sure (just as well because my contributions are likely to be small!)

Beachcomber66 profile image

Not sure how far I will get; yesterday's planned 12k ended up as 7k.....but I will give it a whirl. Bit of an incentive to try harder!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Beachcomber66

Everything OK BC? Definitely no need to push for this challenge. A small contribution from everyone will soon mount up 😊

Think I was a bit wound up when I started! 140 bpm before I began running didn’t leave a lot of headroom! Legs felt fine; just a blip. πŸ‘

No need for a half marathon for this challenge! Open to everyone - long, short, fast, slow ... no discrimination; all you need is a desire to show 2020 who's boss!

I think this one starts just as the speed challenge ends, so hopefully life won't get too complicated; and it should sit nicely alongside the fab festive bingo!

Count me in. I'm working between those dates so I'm not sure how far I will get. Does it have to be done in one go or can I do the distance in several goes?

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to EThomas

We will take the distance of any and every kilometre you run or walk that you complete in the date rang for the community challenge. The individual challenge is optional - just aim to make 2020 however you can (2 minutes and 02.0 seconds is a 2020 in my book!!!)
