β How's your Quest? Tell us all about it in the comments!!! π
My indoor bike now has a new chain, and have been merrily dancing through some fun intervals workouts over the past week. And I ventured out to the cliff tops on my outdoor bike too - it was so lovely!!!
Thanks for asking roseabi! My questing seems to be going well - there was a bit of a lull at the beginning of the month but itβs picked up and Iβm now on week 9 of my C25K Revisited. Yippee! With plan in hand Iβll head on to 5k and then who knows? Happy questing peeps!
Hey, I had a PB on Sat at ParkRun, ,25.58 which for me is unbelievable and as for my quest, I smashed it!!! I ran 10 miles on Monday!!! Couldn't ever see me doing this when I started C25K in May 2020. Felt so chuffed!!!! I've already requested my badge as I was so pleased with myself! I have to thank everyone on here on their ongoing support and encouragement. It's such a great forum. ππββοΈ
The hoped for parkrun with Oldfloss didn't happen. That week was cancelled (very high spring tide plus lack of volunteers).
Then I had a trip and fall, with a good Samaritan dragging me to a nearby school to get patched up. (The damage looked worse than it was: just a scrape.)
I got up to 24km, but did it in worn-out shoes with rain-chilled leg muscles. That took some time to recover from.
Last weekend I got to do that seashore parkrun (without Oldfloss). Running on the mixture of soft sand and shingle was tough!
We end the month with my partner testing positive for COVID, and me feeling a little off. (Still waiting for my own test result.) I'll play things by ear for the next few days.
I'm one run off having done 100 miles this month. Rats!
Oh bless you, what a mixed month you've had! Can't you slip in steady run today or tomm to complete your last one for the month or it is one that you need the distance so also need your speed and stamina??
My quest for March will come to an end tomorrow Wednesday when I hope to run 10K (my 21st10K)in preparation for the London Virtual Vitality 10,000, I probably won't have a quest for April as I'll run a 10K every Wednesday until I run that 10.000 on Wednesday 4th May.
Are you doing the London vitality in person or virtual? I'm thinking of virtual as I can't get to London but actually Id like the thought of my first official race to be with other people π
I am running the virtual version, if you wish to run in London I think there is still plenty of time to train and register, I have just come back from running my 21st 10K and completing Roseabi's quest for March.
Hello roseabi , thanks for hosting this month. Cliffs and bikes! Exciting stuff and keep away from the edge!
My Quest...well, on Saturday I climbed up a gorge, absolutely beautiful, smothered in wild flowers of every description and colour with a stunning view to the sea and islands. Garmin says I covered 0.33km in 1 hr 03 mins but doesn't mention the 106m elevation. I should have run on Sunday but we were setting off to the Greek mainland later that day so decided to have a 'recovery' day.
Then Monday was travelling from around 6am UK time until we got home around 7pm.
This morning was so dull and gloomy I decided to have another break. So, while I'm on course to run 50km this month (currently on 48.89) I really have to kick myself up the behind when I wake up tomorrow in order to get it done. Will I do a 10km by the end of the month? Depends on the weather, how muddy the track is and my motivation. One of those things is just a state of mind, another will be a physical fact, the third is 100% within my control.
My pleasure! And yes, the cycle path is well away from the edge, although I did carry the bike over to the fence for a cheeky photo! Nothing dangerous though πππ
Wow, how absolutely beautiful - thanks for sharing!!!
This morning was even less inviting when I looked out of the window. It had been raining which means the clay soil on the fields would be wet and very muddy and I don't really like running on pavements so I wimped out. Usually my husband will egg me on if I'm unenthusiastic (or vice versa) but the last few days we've both turned into total slobs. Tomorrow looks even worse, all the above plus 40mph winds. Friday less strong winds but sleet πππOn the plus side conditions for Parkrun on Saturday look a bit more pleasant but I'm off to see 10cc for my birthday on Friday so may be having a bit of a late night and a lie in.
I am on track for a completion of the 500K cycling this month - two more rides and only 50K to go but I am on track for a painfully close 94K of 100K running - I think I will miss it by one day!
Congratulations! Itβs a bike chain! π²πSounds like you have had fun with that newest addition to your workout-gear-family!
Until yesterday I was doing fine!
Last week, I managed the first two runs in Zombies25k, 5 rather slow but long rows and 2 Yoga sessions! Added to that 7 short 12-15min mobility/stretchy sessions! So exactly the targets that I set myself.
And all that added up to 537 minutes of workouts! (What do you know! A new diary really helps me add this figures!)
Was feeling great, but yesterday and today I just suddenly felt exhausted. (Didnβt help much that I stayed up very late the day before preparing cakes and brilliant meals for hubbies birthday. )
So still tired today, especially as it was a long at-work-day, and hoping Iβll have more energy tomorrow. But tough work-week, and Iβll only get to row or run on Sat again. π
Work does tend to get in the way, doesnβt it?
My newest plan for the near future includes doing some of the workouts on the 7min Workout app. Hubby had been doing those for a couple of years and swears by them. And there is a βbottom workoutβ that looks to strengthen glutes and hamstrings, and Iβve come to the conclusion that hamstrings might be an area of weakness for me. So Iβll have to see how I can plan that in.
You've done great, such a mixture of activities, well done. You've reminded me about Zombies Run haven't done any of those for ages, would be good to mix them up. I started to follow some of the exercises in Runners World for tight hips and glutes which were really helpful. Which app are you using for the 7 min workout? sounds like a good one to fit in when work gets in the way!!π
It is very nice to have such a slinky addition! The old chain was REALLY old, so it's no surprise in hindsight that it ended in catastrophic failure π
Excellent! Rest well, and yay for short workouts, hope you can get some in and enjoy them xxx
Hello @roseabi and fellow questers. Glad to hear you're cycling again. Thanks so much for hosting this month. My quests this week have gone quite well.1) YES - continuing with Garmin Coach 10k training plan for 10k race in April
2) YES- run 3 times this week - have actually run 4 times
3) YES - cross train twice a week - managed to fit in a long walk and a YWA session
4) COMPLETE - run 2 park runs and volunteer at 1 - have run 3 and volunteered at 1
5) YES warm up longer than usual - NONE - do strength exercises at my own pace
6) NO - run in low heart rate zones - have needed to change to higher heart rate training/ faster pace due to lack of time
7) NO - get 8 hours sleep a night - only managed to get 8+ hours sleep for 3 nights
I'm planning on finishing this month with another 2 cross training sessions and 1 more run.
Congrats on the new chain, what is that little red thread on it?
As for my quest, unfortunately I skipped 1 run (fell asleep on the couch and didn't have the energy to run afterwards), because of which last week I only ran 2 times instead of 3 times. But in my daily meditations I am currently following a week of meditations about self respect and self acceptance and such and I should not be too hard on myself because of the lost run. It is difficult accepting this, I am always very hard on myself (mentally that is), but I should learn it. So I am trying not to think too much about it. I did run yesterday, while I wasn't in the mood (did enjoy myself once I was running though). So fingers crossed that those 3 times a week will keep coming!
I was a bit paranoid about the chain breaking again, so I marked the place where the chain was joined together with a bit of red thread, so I could keep an eye on it! But actually, the new chain feels lovely and smooth, and now I totally get why the old chain broke!!
Excellent lessons! Sometimes we all need to remember this π
Well done, I'm sure you will mostly hit your goal. But if sometimes you don't - so be it!! xxx
Day 90 of the run streak yesterday, and my strength training is still on track too (or will be when I pick up the weights later π€£). March has flown by, I must be getting old!
I surprised myself by having two of my quest goals in the bag early (the two vegan days and the five sessions of yoga) although sadly this doesn't seem to have embedded much and ironically the run goal of a mere five sessions which seemed the easiest to achieve is probably going to be unfulfilled as I think it will probably be imprudent to run today. That's not due to snow, but to three very full days getting my previous firstborn graduated - so lucky to get an inperson ceremony although I shall not be surprised if we've all got something else as a result... you know what!) I am really hoping to be able to manage a get together with two old friends so need to recover from this trip. Sometimes there are other sorts of fitness (maintaining one's social networks!)
Thanks for running the Quest this month, it really gives me the right sort of push.
