First ‘night’ run

I ran in the dark yesterday for the first time. It wasn’t really nighttime, only around 6/7pm but it was dark and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gave my run a totally different feel. The darkness necessitated a slightly slower steady pace to be sure of my footing (the pavements round here are a mess!) and I swapped my earphones for a high-vis jacket. It was my first time running 7k (as part of Ju-Ju’s plan) and to be honest I could have run further. Does anyone else enjoy running at night? Any tips or thoughts?

Glad you enjoyed your dark early morning run. I've done it a few times when I can't fit in a run any other way but I don't like it. I feel vulnerable and worry about dog poo. It's also boring because I can see anything or anyone. You keep it up though if you're loving it.

Thanks for your reply ‘Cantso’. Dog poo is a risk definitely. I also found low lying tree branches a potential hazard! Oddly I found the lack of things to look at quite meditative. 🧘 😊

Due to various factors I'm finding that I'm out running around 5pm for the last few weeks. Head torch and hi-vis kit. It can be peaceful. There are different sights and sounds than during the daytime. (eg. I heard and saw an owl a couple of weeks ago.)

What I haven't done yet is a pre-dawn run.

Yes nowster, I think that’s why I enjoyed it. I found it quite peaceful. I might need to invest in a head torch! 🌗🏃‍♂️

Great 1st night time and 7k run. Not tried a dark run yet as I fear balance problems but our village is glowing with Christmas lights so I may be brave and follow your lead, but with a short run😂 happy running 🤗

I know what you mean Grannyhugs. It was a bit daunting at first but I took it nice and steady and slowed down if there were any places where I couldn’t see very well. A run through your festive village sounds lovely!
