Still plodding on....made it to 12k today!

Had bit of a busy week, so only managed a couple of 4K runs this week. Headed out this afternoon with the aim of doing 7 or 8km, however soon found my pace and settled in for 10k. By the time I hit 10k I still felt OK so pushed on to 12k, which is now my longest run (previously 11k). Pretty happy with the splits and overall times as I also managed to knock a further minute off my previous 10k time.

The plan is to keep plodding on until I hit the magic 16.1km so I can claim a 10 mile run (and badge !). However not sure that’s going to happen before the end of the year as the kitchen cupboards are starting to fill with tempting Christmas food. So I reckon my 16.1km target will become my New Year target....maybe by the end of January, if I don’t eat too much over Christmas 😂😂

Fantastic effort and great split times. Dont be rushing to your 10miles and risk injury, nice to have a new year resolution to aim for. Happy running 🤗

Too true! I’m making sure I add the distance to my long runs slowly, so definitely a New Year resolution to aim for !

Congratulations on your new 12k PB 👏🏻👏🏻you’re a fast runner, those splits are very impressive. I think if you slowed a little you’d definitely hit the 10 mile mark 👍

Thanks. I know I am too fast, I keep trying to slow down, but always seen to end up back around 6:20 as an average pace. Will definitely try slowing down on my next long run and see what a difference that makes to the distance!

Good luck, I definitely think you could do it if you preserved some of that energy on a long run and paced yourself, you can easily finish with a flourish if you’ve got anything left in the tank👍

Thanks. I guess a little bit of me has been trying to improve my 10k time to a sub 60 minute, but to be honest I think adding the extra distance is more of a challenge so will slow down and see where I get to !

Good running there. My splits used to look much like yours until I started to introduce a bit of discipline and slow things down at the start.

I asked a fellow runner for tips, slow down was number one especially at the start of a long run. Decide on a pace or heart rate zone for each section of the run and stick to it. Sticking to it is the hard part! If you can, much depends on the terrain, plan to increase the pace as the run progresses.

It’s much more satisfying to have something in reserve at the end of a run than feel you’re right at your limit every time.

Thanks for the advice as I always start to quickly usually sub six minutes. I need to just get back into a slower pace, I did go through a period of running at about 6:40 a km, so will aim for that next time and then see if I can slow down some more ! I just have to get my stride right to match the slower pace ! Will post again to let you know how I get on.
