I am looking to get healthy. I am 42 and overweight so running is going to be my lifeline. I have a disc protrusion and my left leg is effected by the spinal nerve root being squashed. I’m really enjoying my runs. I’m managing about 5k in 40 mins at the moment on a treadmill with an incline of 3. Is this an ok speed I don’t feel ready to up the speed just yet as I do get tired. Is running outside easier than the treadmill. I’m keen to extend my runs but not sure when to do this. I’m a very big novice! 🤣

Great job on running for 40 minutes. Some people want to go faster and others want to run for longer. Whatever your preference will influence whether you decide to work on increasing distance or trying to change up your pace. Running outside definitely gives you a change of scenery and conditions. But, when there is ice on the ground- I would prefer to run inside. If you are wanting to change your running on the treadmill, you could look at doing the hill program one day, a flat run the next and a slow/long run the other.
