So I do a run tonight 3.5 miles come back, rest for 3/4 hour and then complete a dance workout (only did low level). Only to find my left mid calf feeling rather uncomfortable? Not sure why as I did warm up stretches, cool down etc! Put some voltarol on it and the heat pad to try and ease it! It better go as quick as it’s come on fingers crossed 🤞🏻 #nolikey🙁 I’m a tad worried as I’ve torn my calf muscle years ago & ruptured my Achilles 3 years ago 😕 I know pain like this & it almost feels cramp like - any ideas, gratefully received ❤️

Hi Jn , I can sympathise with you on this , having strained, torn and pulled those bad boys a number of times over the last two years !!Rest ,Ice pack ,regular gentle massages ,and when you feel ready to , stretching the calf muscles using calf raises/drops and any of the various stretching exercises for the calves that can be found on Youtube !! This can/might take a number of weeks, I was out of the game for about six weeks last time ,but persevere with it and don't be inclined to rush the process as you might compound the injury ! Hope you are soon back in the race !
Thank you 😊 it’s so frustrating isn’t it? My sister constantly says, ‘I don’t know why you bother doing exercise as you’re always getting injured’ and it’s usually quite severe!! Must admit I love exercising and the buzz it gives me that’s why I keep trying to get fit!!
It’s definitely feeling a little better this morning and I’ll be resting for a little while that’s for sure!
Don’t you find your fitness levels drop quite quickly?

My pain is on the outside of my left leg but the lower calf area if you know what I mean?
I do find that my times, for say , 5K, do come down ,perhaps about 3-4 minutes over may be 5-6 weeks that Ive been side-lined ,but I soon regain form after taking necessary time out. Yes,to the region of the calf you mention, - my problems I think with any area of the calf was/is , not warming the area up enough and/or pushing too hard /too early in the running session ! After falling foul of these ,or any other running related injuries, then coming to an understanding of why ,and how, these injuries occur ,helps , I feel, in the ongoing process of our becoming better educated as runners - not just a case of throwing on our kit and heading hell for leather down the street ! Appropriate warm up /stretching sessions -warm down sessions too ,along with supplementary exercises for our supporting muscles ie glutes, quads etc .all go along way ,I feel , in keeping us on the road , in the race , and in a happy place !!
