Pain in the backside

So after my lovely "looking after myself" run on Saturday I thought I'd make use of the outdoor gym I'd just discovered in my local rec ground on Sunday after work. Feeling very virtuous I trotted down and did 30 mins basically going round all the machines twice.

I obviously put a bit too much enthusiasm into it however as, given I already had a niggly hip and glute I was in severe discomfort yesterday. Proper constant pain. Making work a very tricky day indeed and yesterdays planned run a definite non-starter.

It's eased a little today so hoping to get through the day without too much pain.

I will go back to the outdoor gym... but I think given how much is targeted towards lower body I'll have to take it much easier!!

Til then I have an emergency massage Weds if I need it and I'll just try and move normally ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ™„

Yes Jo,

any gym stuff can catch you out.

Even if you are going regularly,

and you do not have to push too hard to get all the benefits anyway. When returning after a lull always break yourself back into it gently.

Take care of you and hope this will pass quickly.๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ

100%! Couldn't believe the discomfort. Everything else started to hurt as the rest of the leg and groin bravely tried to compensate. I was handed my arse... literally ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Oh poor you. ๐Ÿ™ I wonder if it is your piriformis that is giving you jip? I had that once, and found the seated figure of four stretch really helped. My sports massage guy always has a go at my piriformis as he says it is a renowned problem for runners. He digs his elbow deep into my bum cheek and wiggles it about - it really hurts but feels great after!

Hope you feel much better soon, jojo!

Oops didn't see your post Sadie! I suggested the same stretch.Sitting on a tennis ball or hard ball really helps too ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I tried sitting on all sorts!! At one point last night I was just rolling about on thr offending buttock groaning and moaning ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

I did look at that, but its really just the glute on that side and only really because my knee was a little sore so the compensating started with the hamstring, IT, glute and quad getting a little sore. The run actually made everything feel better. But now I've overdone it. Yes I've been doing the standing version today whilst working. I usually do figure 4 on my back every night but I'm going to do the standing version each day now too. Thats the one good thing of a physical job...I can work in stretches and strength training too. Most amusing for bystanders ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Have you tried very gentle stretching? Make sure the muscle is warm first (put a hot water on it or after a bath or shower) If it's too painful then stretching is a no-no but I've found that with my various gym related pains that stretching really helps. Try it but go very slowly and if it's too much then stop.

Maybe a gentle figure-of-four stretch

Or the seated version

I overdid one exercise in the gym yesterday (groin) and ended up walking out like John Wayne but a few gentle stretches afterwards and rest and it's fine now ๐Ÿ™‚

Oddly stretching wasn't too painful (although I think I have quite a high threshold for pain). I do figure 4 every night and am adding the standing version into my dailies now. I did seated last night too I think.

Yea... I one fairly recently did way too many squats and had burning thighs for 2 days. I really should know better. ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Yea... pigeon pose is in my daily flexibility programme, downwards dog, pigeon, figure 4 and leg up in the air hamstring stretch... can't remember proper name ๐Ÿ‘

I like pigeon, get a good hip stretch. 90/90 too ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

It's a great stretch isn't it? It sounds as if you've stretched well ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm sure that massage will work magic ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

The awful thing is I just had my regular last week so really shouldn't be splashing out on another this soon. I'll see how it is later, its much improved today, I can work and walk without difficulty so I'm thinking I'll get away with another night of rest and stretching ๐Ÿคž

I stretched... and ran instead! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ I've built standing figure 4 into my warm down cardio now so providing I don't overdo things again, all should be good ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

Stretch it gently out. I had a stretching session last night as i ached so much after a full day on the plot. Did all the stretches I knew ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I got out of bed this morning feeling much better Off running and plotting today

I hope you feel better now ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ƒ. The outdoor gym is great innit. I wish ours had some bars though

Definately on the mend.

The crazy thing is I've run past it so many times and only really clocked what it was on Saturday. I just assumed it was part of the kids play area till then.

We've got parallel bars, pull up bars, leg raiser bars, rower, squat press, power push for arms, slalom skier and health walker. I think it was the skier and walker that did it. Felt really easy so I pushed harder ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
