I wasn’t planning to but glad i did ! This am I woke up and checked watch according to which it was my 10k run day !! I have been ‘following’ a Garmin 10k coaching plan (though I didn’t really follow it - I followed JuJu’s and also had to speed up the plan to make the Vitality 10k....) so it was a bit of a surprise when I realised it was run day 😂. Briefly regretted that extra glass of wine last night.... still I didn’t feel too bad, maybe I should give it a go !
But I needed some motivation - I knew that the ‘serious’ audio book that I have been listening to the past few runs wouldn’t sustain me (free month of Audible ! Note to self to set reminder to cancel !!). So much for free stuff, I’d heard Kylie had released a new album ‘Disco’ and thought that might be fun - and after all I have to start behaving myself according to my new fitness age so perhaps a bit of a bop and pop would help my cadence. 💃🏼😂 agh - more running habit expenses - this was supposed to be a ‘cheap’ hobby ! But I console myself that I was wearing a home made headband made out of a recycled old t-shirt. 😇
Kylie really helped !! Such a fun album - anyone with 80s/90s disco taste should love it (hints of the bee bees in there somewhere !!) and lots of lyrics easily translatable to a running context (can’t remember them now but one was something about ‘another woman’ who ‘may have the body but ain’t got the moves’ 😂). But I was just over 5k in and starting to feel tired and Kylie finished and how had I known which song would pick me up after all that frenetic pop beat ? It was perfect - on came Bill Withers ‘Lovely Day’ - just calm, deep, full of love for life - perfect song to keep me going. Won’t go through the rest of my playlist - nothing remarkable (though just as I came up to 8k Simon le Bon was pleading on my behalf ‘don’t say a prayer for me now, save it till the morning after!’) - and I felt I could speed up - partly because I’d reached the park for my final home run and it was soooo busy I had to constantly speed up to get out of people’s way (the children’s playground was busier than closing time at the pub on a Friday night !). So I knocked 3 mins off my first 10k. Hurrah ! 🥳
And on the Pennine Way - I’m now 55 miles in and arrived at Ponden Reservoir - where I was in ‘real life’ (remember that ?) in September 2018 - and this photo was taken from just a bit further on the route. A rather wonderful reminder of a lovely holiday in Wuthering Heights country. (Should have added Kate Bush to my playlist !).
