I haven’t run more than 5k for almost 2 months and my motivation has been affected by a daily rollercoaster of emotions - losing our dog, the threat of being cut off from family and friends at short notice again, not being able to safely plan anything, although there have been some positives! Anyway, with the virtual Vitality 10000 just over a week away, I thought I had better see if I can still manage it. I’d been trying to force myself out since Monday, without success, but spurred on by cheekychipmunks report of her HM yesterday and a blue sky and sunshine, I laced up my shoes and headed out this morning. No effort at speed, but just an easy run, watching the Red Arrows practising their loops overhead. The last 2k told me I was out of practice, but a time of 1:07:42, way off a PB, but I’ll take it for now. Got back and booked a 4 night break in Cornwall starting on Monday, while I still can, after which 🤞🏻for the virtual Vitality with Katnap TailChaser Windoze and Shake-and-run in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Oh brilliant. Very well done Sandie. I know exactly what you mean. I'm in the same boat. So out of kilter with everything going on. Our 16 year old doggie died too. I'm still running. But without anything specific to focus on or train for It is difficult. But the main thing is that we are still trying. Still getting out there. I ran 8K on Monday and soon will be running 5K with Oisin for the first time in ages. Best of luck with your 10K prep.

I know. Everything is just so up in the air and I feel as though there’s no point in looking forward to anything, because it might not happen 😢 I am very aware that I am lucky being in one of the Tier 1 restriction areas and that so many are in so much worse a situation. Oh well, onward and upward! Feeling better for a sunny day and a run 😊

I have refocused myself. I am going to get back to sub 30 min 5K's and also get back towards 28 minutes. I need a Goal. Just for myself.

Good luck Sandie - that's brilliant that you can still knock out a 10k just like that :D

I hope the pain of losing your dog is improving. Have you considered getting another? Not to replace your old one, but just someone to soak up all that love you obviously have in spades.

We have a curfew now, no outside between the hours of 9pm at night and 6am - given that is when I do most of my running, it kind of sucks, especially as my knee is slowly improving finally.

Still waiting to hear if sport and dog walking is exempt from the curfew - fingers crossed!

We will get another, but not for a while. Although we miss him to pieces, the freedom is very welcome! Sorry to hear you’re in the curfew zone - I did read in the Local that walking the dog will be a reason to go out though 🤞

I shall be Jeffing so will be setting off before you in order to be able to join you for coffee afterwards.

Because of the rule of 6, I’ll be in the southern team so we’ll only be able to have a virtual coffee I’m afraid .

We haven’t had any post today 😭 Serious FOMO!

Good run Sandie. Your nose is ahead of all of the other musketeers and will stay there on race day. Your underlying fitness is clearly there; another training run this week and you will be fighting fit. My best 10k since my knee damage is 1:06:59 and that was 3 weeks ago. I have been steadily upping distance and getting back to my weekly hill run, so no 10k practice.

I tried out my brand new Speedgoats yesterday; they fair bounced up the hills; new PB for the route-but I am expecting a Stewards Inquiry. Artificial aids!

(Not) parkrun and some trotting round Cornwall next week (ooh hills 😖) will hopefully help. Think I’ll still be on Katnap and Tailchaser’s coattails though! And the elusive sub 60 will remain a dream I fear 😂

What make are Speedgoats and are they any good for soggy ground?

Hokas trail shoes. Tasha99 recommended them. They are well padded ( to help my knee). My hill route drains really well so not a real wet test yesterday, but they felt great.

You must get Speedgoats! Also, Gaviota are better than Arahi stability road shoes if you want to have more cushioning. Boing boing 🤣

Great time Sandie 😀

Ooh, looks tempting. I love my Arahis but got very wet feet on Saturday!

That’s excellent Sandie, and a time I did 9k in last week , so it looks good to me.

Have a lovely time in Cornwall and see you virtually on the 25th.

We’ve got everything crossed too Sandie. Still lowest tier here - long may it stay that way. Mucked up my half term London trip with youngest kitten today though. 1:07 is still a fine time after 2 months break

Here’s to half term 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Sandie1961 profile image

We’re still in tier 1 too 😃 What a shame about your trip to London. Both our kids and grandkids going into tier 2 😡

Praying we can still get together on 25th 🙏

Eldest is in tier 3 😫 I’ve just sent him a chilli plant via Amazon so he can cook some curries as he’s isolating as well.

I have every confidence we’ll be ok Sandie, we’re not in big cities 🤗

I was thinking about eldest kitten earlier and wondering how he was getting on. Not a great start to Uni - self isolating then emerging into tier 3 😖

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

No but thankfully he’s not a mega socialising person so it’s not bothering him too much. Just hope he can come home for Christmas 🤞

I think there will be civil war if students can’t go home for Xmas and the govt seem to appreciate that so 🤞🤞🤞

Yeah, I think you’re right, in both ways!

Well done you! I think that is a decent time considering you were feeling how you go. I normally do mine slower than that. Hopefully this gives you confidence going forward now. Enjoy your break and feel positive about what you've achieved again 👏👏👏👏😊🥇

Thanks GTFC! Still 5 mins slower than my fastest, but hey 😃 The elusive sub 60 seems as far away as ever, but at least I know I can still get round 10k. Maybe need to start building back up to HM over winter in the hope of a real race in Spring!
