Living in a land-locked county I have always fancied the idea of doing my ‘jog’ by the sea. I dreamed of running along a promenade with the sound of the waves breaking on the beach below, seagulls flying overhead and a gentle sea breeze keeping me cool. So when Mr Shaky had an appointment in Brighton I thought I could tag along and see if I could run along the sea front.
Weather was not quite as I had imagined, no fluffy white clouds in a azure sky but it was not raining and the temperature was pleasant. There were people on the front but it was not crowded so I was able to dodge the cyclists and skateboarders and keep out of peoples’ way. The payment was uneven in places so I did need to look where I was putting my feet and any notion I had that it would be flat was soon dismissed by the gentle rise that heads up from the pier going west. There was also a head wind but it was not too bad especially as it became a tail wind on the way back. Traffic noise drowned out any other noise so to be honest I could have been running in any town as I really was not able to appreciate my surroundings. I did however pass the statue of Steve Ovett, which enabled me to imagine I could be following in his footsteps (but not at his pace... obviously), I bet he could not hear the sea either.
