Living in a land-locked county I have always fancied the idea of doing my ‘jog’ by the sea. I dreamed of running along a promenade with the sound of the waves breaking on the beach below, seagulls flying overhead and a gentle sea breeze keeping me cool. So when Mr Shaky had an appointment in Brighton I thought I could tag along and see if I could run along the sea front.
Weather was not quite as I had imagined, no fluffy white clouds in a azure sky but it was not raining and the temperature was pleasant. There were people on the front but it was not crowded so I was able to dodge the cyclists and skateboarders and keep out of peoples’ way. The payment was uneven in places so I did need to look where I was putting my feet and any notion I had that it would be flat was soon dismissed by the gentle rise that heads up from the pier going west. There was also a head wind but it was not too bad especially as it became a tail wind on the way back. Traffic noise drowned out any other noise so to be honest I could have been running in any town as I really was not able to appreciate my surroundings. I did however pass the statue of Steve Ovett, which enabled me to imagine I could be following in his footsteps (but not at his pace... obviously), I bet he could not hear the sea either.

Brighton seafront is better than ours in many ways, but Southsea most definitely the best for running. Even if it had a stiff, cold, easterly breeze this morning for the Southsea gang (not) parkrun
I love going for a run somewhere new - try to fit them in as often as I can Sorry the traffic noise meant your dream was incomplete - I am lucky that I do get to run by the sea (short bike ride away) and it is lovely, particularly in a few spots where there are nice offroad trails by the shore. Maybe some other time you will get your perfect seaside run!
I’m glad you were able to enjoy some ozone and sea breezes Shake-and-run! You were in WillowandSola territory there - hope to sea you on our bit of the South Coast one day for some more parkrun tourism!
I am very fortunate to spend a part of my week in a beautiful Georgian house opposite Brighton beach. I appreciate every run so much. If I turn left I head out over the cliffs and if head right, I head down marina parade and past the pier to hove. It gets a bit too busy in the summer to enjoy the west bound runs but there is always the parks and of course the beautiful downs to run on.
