Morning all, after my few dodgy weeks I seem to be getting back into things and enjoying my slowish 5ks. I went out this morning and had a lovely 5 again that included a few inclines which I seemed to handle ok. I’ve been reading some posts on here and looking on line as I’d like to know what HR zone I should be running in for longer runs as I feel I need to start getting my distance back up again. Can anyone give advice with HR zones? Also I have a Garmin Forerunner 35 so not sure if or how I would know my HR when it’s tracking my time and pace πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Any idea?

I have a 45s and it tells me on there. Also it tells you if you are on the Garmin connect site. I try for low range in HR3 mainly but sometimes in HR2. Long steady runs really will help you move forward. You really do have to try and keep it steady at times but it's worth it. I am not an expert by any means. You won't lose any speed too! It says both. You can tailor the screen to see what you'd like. Are you connected to the Garmin Connect app at all?

Ok. I need to have a play with the watch. I think my max rate for my age is 177, so if I try to keep runs at about 123 -155 I think that’s my zone 2/low 3ish! πŸ˜‚ I’ll see how it goes 😬 Thank you!

I also didn't know your HR zone can display on the screen, I have a vivoactive 3, I'll see if mine can also display both. What I have done is check the stats of a tracked run on connect - the tab with the graphs has the info on HR zones at the very bottom, and it tells you your range for each zone πŸ™‚

Thank you. The stats don’t look too good. It says I was in Z4 57% and Z5 for 42%. Not sure where I was for the 1% πŸ˜‚. It felt like a very comfortable run 😱

If it felt good, I'm sure it's fine πŸ™‚ I think you may be able to adjust the ranges for each zone but don't quote me on that one! At least now you can check while you're running and slow down to keep within the zone you want to train in. I had to learn to reeally slow down to stay within zone 3. It barely feels like a jog tbh 🀣 but I can keep going for ages

My average last few runs have been 159bpm which have all felt fine. That’s all zone 4! Jeez, probably should stop reading up too much about it and just run πŸ˜‚. Thanks for advice πŸ˜€

You might have to manually adjust your max heart rate. The age calculation is rubbish. I'm 61 so when I first ran with my Garmin watch it kept telling me to stop and have a rest πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I got a bit freaked initially until I read up and consulted the forum on heart rates. Worth a google session - otherwise you will be training at a brisk walk!

I didn’t realise you could see your heart rate zone. My highest rate this morning was 142 when running. Where can you find your zone? I have the 245.

Take a look on the Garmin Connect app and if you click on the run and then there are tabs for splits giving oace and heart rate etc. You may not have noticed if you hadn't looked at those tabs - not that obvious that they are different bits to click on. You'll see what I mean if you have a fiddle with it.
