Just finished up week two! I am doing the timed version and only two weeks in and I ran for 39 minutes today. I am making it so much farther down the river on one of my favorite trails. I live right off an amazing 27 mile trail that encircles my town, 33 miles if you count the new spurs. It goes along the river on both sides, around a lake, through a sedge meadow on miles of wooden boardwalks, and miles and miles of forest. I live in an ecological tension zone between oak savannas and pine forests (the pinery) so the woods around here are amazing. But I digress.
Run 1 was yet again disappointingly brief. Even working on speed a 15 minute run doesn't leave me satiated at all. Sigh. I get home raring to go running more. I have a feeling that is part of the magic.
Run 2 was a lovely 30 minute run in a light but steady rain. It was lovely. Up until 2 weeks ago it was so very hot and muggy here that running was enjoyable but a force of will to be sure. Saturday morning was 14 degrees and magical in the rainy woods.
Run 3 got me farther down the trail than every before! 39 minutes down the trail! It was cool. The leaves are starting to turn. Jewel weed is blooming. Geese are flying south. Only the the last 2 minutes were kinda tough but besides that I was astonished how much farther I can run in 39 minutes in cool weather as opposed to 30 minutes in the sauna that Wisconsin in August can be. AND I saw a porcupine!
