And a scorcher it was - another glorious morning for the Southsea motley crew (not)Parkrun. No PBs but Dexy5 and UpTheStanley both had negative splits and I did my second best (not)Parkrun time of 48:15. Coddfish and I played the overtaking game on the last km as I passed her as she walked and she steamed passed me when she started running again. And Mr C? Well he just quietly gets on with his run, no mess no fuss! As ever, a fine brekkie to follow looking out on the Solent with its huge container ships, the RN heading out on manoeuvres and yachts galore, including what could have been Ben Ainslie’s ocean going racing yacht. It’s a busy life!
Happy running folks!

We’re going to crack out my grandson’s paddling pool again. He’s 1 tomorrow - can’t believe it! Later I’m going to watch Mr Cheeky and our son assemble the hefty wooden swing we bought him! That’ll be a laugh! 😅
Negative splits for me as reported, but necessary after a somewhat sluggish start if I was to beat by 25 minute bogey time - I got back on track after 4k, and a half decent last k delivered 24'50" overall. So another tick against Oldfloss 's Quest , but it's getting harder every week .
Blimey, cheekychipmunks , what time were you up at to find a coolth like that?
Well done on your 2nd best (not) parkrun time Oldgirlruns; it turned out to be mine too, the last one being pre-achilles injury. I think I was helped along by the man who was running ahead of me who acted as a target, just like real parkrun. 34:37 is still some way from my best 5k time but as I get stronger and run further, I am sure that will improve too.
As someone used to running later in the day, I didn’t find the 18C a problem but was glad there was a nice easterly breeze to help
push me home. Once again I am very pleased with the negative splits.
I did have to weave around various walkers and dog walkers more today now that the council has opened up the COVID-19 Exercise area to traffic again. I also had a bit of faffage when my music stopped, and accidentally initiated a last number redial in trying to get it going again.
It was good to see 3 of you during my run and as always, great to have a natter Over brekkie.
I must say I missed the road’s better running surface, but I won’t miss the traffic problem the road closure caused to Eastern Parade. Running along there this morning was bliss.
Yes it was a great morning for an early morning run. Over here in Somerset we had a mist which made trees into black shapes surrounded by a golden glow from the defused light of the rising Sun. 😎
Another fantastic run for you today Oldgirlruns, I like the way you say you ran past Coddfish and then she 'steamed' passed you, a lovely photo, nice pleasant day where I am in Scotland but its not a scorcher.
Steaming in the sense of being too hot, I think. I do run slightly faster than OGR but I also favour short walking breaks, particularly when hot. So we did play a slow game of leapfrog along the promenade, alternately giving each other a target.
Maybe gliding would have been a better word Coddfish! There’s a marketing opportunity for Parkrun t-shirts I reckon, with a brightly coloured target on the back (don’t forget my royalties Parkrun if you ever take this up!).
Not to mention the small army of swimmers, paddle boarders etc enjoying a beautiful early autumn morning. I am awfully glad we were done and safely in the cafe by 9:30, the walk home an hour later was rather hot. Thanks for the write up.
😊 beautiful weather for it. A little too warm here for anything too energetic but wonderful weather to be enjoyed. Well done on your 2nd best !Parkrun time 👏👏👏
Thank you BrianUK; I had hoped to be a bit speedier by the time Parkrun resumes but it doesn’t seem to be happening! Ah well, I can always change my username to “dreamonOGR”!
Have you tried pushing on and doing some speed work sessions? Just a few intervals maybe on one day a week? Hands down the best way to improve your speed.
Yes, Dexy5 and UTS keep telling me about that- and I keep finding reasons not to do it! I’m running out of excuses now so maybe it will have to be an autumn project....
Thanks Dexy5 I spent part of yesterday and today tidying it up. I’ve got a lovely crop of beetroot and was going to make some beetroot and apple chutney but I’ve lost my Kilner lids so will have to wait until Monday for delivery ☹️
Well done Southsea crew. Sounds like a good run for everyone and fame for a certain member of the team. Can’t wait to do my next one - day 4, 10 to go!
