After what definitely seems like an age, since I last posted anything.....
Who else has struggled with the whole kids at home since March malarkey π±. Running has though continued adhoc, as and when, squeezed between crazy shifts, no furlough in the feeding the nation industry.... Add to that a Mrs Wife at the forefront of the covid Battle..... At times I won't lie running has had to go on the back burner π.
I've kept the 5ks as regular as possible, with much dog walking and the occasional longer run.. then eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyikes I'd gone out and had a nice quick 5k everything rosey, rested for a couple of days then went again. 3 ks in the left calf muscle just went tight and without trying to be macho it hurt like hell, a short hobbling Walk home. Stretched and googled and rested tried to run again about 10 days later 3 ks in tightness again grrrrrr..... Baffled and mystified. Rested and stretched regularly, and gained advice from a physio who works with Mrs Wife, and thought I'd try a compression sleeve after researching the pros and cons, today complete with thanks to my youngest daughter " oh dad nice bionic legs" hmmmmmm π§ off I went did a few pre run stretches and a decent warm up walk. I accomplished a 5k... Warm down jog/walk and phew it feels ok little tight but ok, fingers crossed it holds up.....
Hey Hidden π My first time back here for a while too! Good to hear your calf is on the mend!
Lockdown running for me was the saviour of my sanity π 5 half marathons, 1 full marathon and all the other runs in between! I'm doing another full marathon this weekend for charity.
I am totally in awe of your regular 5k's, as well as having teenagers at home, a wife on the COVID front line and working crazy shifts yourself! β€οΈ
I'm sure things are no where near back to normal for you and the family yet, but your calf sounds like it's getting there π¦΅
Talking of legs... I popped round to my mum & dad's (age 82 & 83) in my running gear before I went for a run... Dad said "last time I saw legs like that, they were on a Queen Anne table". π Dad jokes are still the best π€£
Sending you and the family love and best wishes and hoping for a full recovery on your calf! X
Never failing Miss Ali those msgs of yours as always warm the cockles π₯³ I believe those queen Anne tables were quite indestructible π little like yourself, only you could manage to get quicker following a running absence..... A mystery and an envious me...
Hopefully I'll carry on mending as I don't do this falling apart thing, it sucks. And with the education machine cranking back into life, let's hope for some sort of (new) normality x
By Queen Anne legs, I thought he meant curved and spindly π€£
Don't know what/how that really fast run happened after a 2 week break? My half marathon last weekend certainly wasn't fast π
I'm finding fitting in regular runs quite difficult now though... Our business still hasn't opened again yet, but we've spent weeks on remoulding our old business model to fit the new norm and reinventing ourselves, but we're all still alive, fit and healthy and looking forward to new ventures in the next few weeks π
I'll keep checking back in on the leg π Always love your photos πΈ Take care xx
Ahhhhhh π€ I'll keep you posted on the leg, and hopefully the piccies will start to flow again asap, a suspect a lot of businesses will be remoulding, given the shape of the new world.. I know with the girls off school, the youngest had her drum lessons via email/ ipad devices and it seemed to work.. I guess you're probably on the ball with this sort of thing, if the voice tutoring can be done in a similar fashion!?
You'll come out of it bigger and better than before π and I'll expect another pb from your forthcoming teeny weeny weekend run x
Ahhhhh maybe worth noting I opted for the compression sleeves as with the full compression socks it may alter your shoe fits? Something to think about??
I completed the c25k at the end on June. Then after a few consolidation runs I got a problem with my right calf. I rested and tried to resume but it took 6 weeks to run without pain. So in the end I started c25k again. I have used compression stockings and have just bought some sleeves. I think my problem is caused by poor circulation and varicose veins.
My advice, take it slow and steady.
I'm on week 6 run 2 on Wednesday.
Peaky muscles Steve, hopefully you'll have sorted it now, good luck on your next run..... I was happily doing approximately 150 klms a month, I'd achieved my HM target and then lockdown and kids off school and stuff derailed my regular running, hopefully my niggle is behind me now. π€
Really lovely that you are back and that you have been able to do what you could when you could. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts and advice on running with these on to see the benefits over time. Really great to see you post again π
