Yesterday was supposed to be a 9k in my gentle build up of distance post rehab, but an anniversary requires a more romantic effort than that, so I carried on to 10k for the first time since 3 April; yep, so long ago ! The two 10ks are otherwise not comparable. Time wise yesterday was exactly 1 min per K slower than the April PB run, but things have changed. My priority is recovery now, so 10k with an average heart rate of 137 and only 2% in zone 5 seems to me to qualify as a beneficial long slow run. I had to squeeze it into the end of the day, so I didn't finish running until 9pm, by which time the insects up in the woods had enjoyed a little too much chateau BC 1952 for my liking, but the best bit was that I ran into a ravishingly beautiful old friend up there; a hunting barn owl which appeared at about the 8k point and flew ahead of me along the track for a minute or so, as if egging me on! I last saw her (has to be a her !!) about 18 months ago, sitting on a fence watching. A great anniversary reunion π.
Next step in BC66 The Comeback (X Cert and not for the faint hearted or easily bored!!) is to introduce one of my 5k hill runs each week. 151m elevation gain, most of it in three hills between 2 and 3k. Probably end up doing a bit of walking on the worst bits to start with, but I will get there. If I can get back to 10 miles this year, that would be great. Knee is behaving itself, KT no longer required; I am starting to hope that the worst is behind me. This 10k is dedicated to my brilliant physio ππ

I loved this and it had me in stitches too. What a great run and one that was deservedly celebrated. To achieve this in over 4 months is really such a good sign. I hope are well on the comeback trail now. As I always say, 'the comeback is bigger than the set back.'
So glad you are able to write a report like this. You've deserved this π₯π₯π₯
Cheers GTFC. I confess that I did think that my running might have come to an end at one point .... but it appears that there are a few kβs under the bonnet yetπ€
Thanks Gran4z. I enjoy wild life encounters; they are more than mere sightings. I feel a connection. We had a Minkie whale circling around and under our stationary boat a couple of years ago; magical as you say.
Yes, I had a close encounter with a seal a couple of years ago - it just gazed into my eyes, and the feeling really echoed in my heart. I will never forget that feeling. Here all I encounter are sea gulls and you know what, I just love them. Fascinating to watch how they circle and calculate how they are going to come in and land like aircraft...fabulous.
and yes, I love owls too - I'm sure I heard one in the middle of the night last week when it was so hot that sleep was not forthcoming.
Amazing BC, back with aplomb (a word I rarely use!). Well done, youβre back and youβre clearly feeling good enough to tackle your killer hills soon! All good stuff. ππ
How lovely your barn owl accompanied you too. She obviously missed you. π¦ ππ₯°
No Tasha. I start off on the old Guisborough railway line where a path comes down at the bottom of Lyndale, run 250 metres towards the cafe then sharp left and left again up the hill past Bousdale House, down the hill then sweep left on the track past Home Farm, turn right on the Hutton Village Road and then leave the road again through a gate on the right to sweep up to the right, through a gate and then follow the track up and down, selecting the lower path at a fork....and that will bring you back to where you started. The first hill off Hutton Lane is the worst. Garmin probably overstates the height; I can just about run it all when on top form.
Happy graduation runniversary Beachcomber66 , and congratulations on your 10k. Oh how great to hear that all is well in your running world, but you have worked hard to get to this point.
Itβs lovely to hear that your barn owl turned up to cheer you on too. What a wonderful sight that must be.
I think it was a sign of getting better that I was literally looking up rather than thinking about my knee, otherwise a cow could have flown overhead and I would have missed it! We have both had set backs on the road to recovery, but we just keep going ππ
It was buddy. Being out a bit later when the dog walkers had gone home and owl eyes were an advantage did the trick. Worth being savaged by man eating midges.π
Happy runniversary BC! Great to hear not only that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but also that you are emerging from it. Fantastic too to have a further encounter with your nocturnal buddy.π
Thanks JP. We both know that there is a lingering doubt at the back of my mind, but that will keep me sensible (hopefully). Legs feel good this morning despite the 10k. Hills are another step change; will add one in tomorrow and then, if all feels well, I will try my 3 peaks on Saturday as part of a 5k. My heart will need time to adjust, so I will have to take it really slowly. Owls are great; circling vultures would be worrying.
Yes, there's always a temptation to 'cut loose' BC. I had my 3rd physio session this week and while my piriformis is improving, it's taking longer than I'd hoped - perhaps because I've probably had the underlying issue for some time. I'm advised to keep away from hills pro tem, not to up my pace, and of course, keep doing the exercises!π
How did I miss this? Happy Runniversary BC and congratulations on the 10k. Great to hear that you made it back and that everything still seems to be in working order. I was sitting on our terrace last night, there was a pair of kestrels arguing in the top of the tree in the garden, then a couple of deer emerged from the vines and disappeared into the woods, then our Little Owl, who we havenβt seen for 2 years came to sit on the fence. Magical π
Thanks Sandie. These encounters are wonderful. I was going to have an extra day off, but tempted to go for a evening bimble again to catch up with my lady friend!!π
