9th 10K 2nd Graduation Run

Today 2 years ago I graduated from C25K so to mark that wonderful day I ran my 9th 10K around the loch near to where I live, the weather was a little misty to begin with but as I finished the sun came out and now at 9.45 there is hardly a cloud in the sky.

I set my metromone app at 166 cadence /beats/steps a minute in the hope of completing the run in sub 75 minutes, as you can see I managed that in a time of 73.39

Congratulations on your anniversary! Lovely to read such an inspiring post.. 😊

Thanks Peggy63, it was a good run in quite cool conditions run at half past seven to avoid the heat of later in the morning.

Well done AlMorr.

Just 12 seconds slower than my one and only 10K race - but that was 3 years ago, I am sure I would be somewhat slower now :)

And congratulations on your Runniversary.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

Thank you very much RunaroundSue on congratulating me on my second runniversary, I enjoyed that run this morning but I never set out to run a PB which is 69.23 ran last year on I think was my 3rd 10K, most of my 10K's have been around the 73-minute range.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

Although I ran a 10K this morning I submitted my 5K split time to Not parkrun this morning which was 36.10

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Yes, I would have done that too.

I usually run 6k on a Saturday so I will work out the 5k (probably the first 5k because that will be quicker :) )

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

From now on I have decided only to submit my 5K virtual parkruns to the not parkrun website on a Saturday, not any other longer runs which I run during the week.

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Yes, I think I will do the same (unless I get an amazingly fast 5k during the week :) )

Well done AlMorr! I'm sure it must have been a beautiful run. Such a glorious time to go out - first thing in the morning - and not too warm either. I am in awe of your distances. I keep forgetting to increase my time just by a little each week. I must try harder!

Have a wonderful day - you've earned it!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to 59er

Yes it's a lovely place to run, I can vary it around a bit, off-road except for a quiet street with people who have at least two cars, some have 3, otherwise, it's around that loch, the loop on the left of the map is just over 1K, this morning I ran around it twice, altogether the loch part including the loop is 3.69k, I had a walk around it yesterday using mapmywalk, the part around the houses with 2 or more cars is exactly 1k and to get to that part is a fraction over 1k so I can vary around to suit my runs or walks, overall I enjoyed my 2nd runiversary run this morning.

59er profile image
59erGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

I am in a very similar situation to you in South Lanarkshire. Several small lochs and plenty of tracks to vary times and distances. I just haven't achieved the distances yet! 🤭

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to 59er

I found the best way to increase distance is to gradually week by week increase by 1k until I got to 10K, perhaps next month I'll try and increase by say two K a week and see how far I get before I either collapse or my legs give in, I'll see how it goes.

Thanks Redcello41, I enjoyed that run this morning.

Last night I listened to Elgar's Cello Concerto and imagined that YOU were the soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra playing at the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.

Only in my dreams unfortunately hahahaha! :-)

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Redcello41

Some dreams come true, it is a great piece of music to listen to but not suitable to run to.

Redcello41 profile image
Redcello41Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

yes definitely not a piece to run too hahaha! :-)

AlMorr profile image

I have never been to a concert where it was played, heard it a lot on the radio and the CD I have.

Redcello41 profile image
Redcello41Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

You should (when things go back to normal)! It's a great piece to experience and hear live! I heard Raphael Wallfisch play it about 4 years ago love and it was amazing! 😀

One of my all time favourites, especially played by Jacqueline du Pre. Mind you, I used to play violin in the Cumbria County Youth Orchestra and we played it one year (about 1976 or 77 I think 😬)

Congratulations on your runniversary. Nice run 😊

AlMorr profile image

I do have a CD of that concerto, the soloist is the Soviet born Israeli celloist Mischa Maisky.

Congratulations AlMorr on your 2 year runniversary and what a great way to celebrate than with a 10k.

Beautiful weather we are having. Enjoy the rest of your day 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🌞🌞

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Buddy34

Thanks Buddy34, I enjoyed that 2nd runniversary run this morning, it is a beautiful day here in Central Scotland, we missed a lot of thunderstorms yesterday, there was one in Ayr around noon on Wednesday, later today I will take Holly a walk around 2 pm, the loop on the left of the map above is through woods not unlike part of the Drumpellier Park Run but is subject to flooding which I sometimes have to miss if it has been raining a lot, have a great day.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to MoliJ

Thank you MoliJ, it was EXACTLY at this time 10.40 am on the 18th June 2018 that I was running my 3rd run of week 9 of C25K, but I was running it along the prom at Helensburgh a town on the west coast of Scotland about 25 miles from where I live, not around the loch I ran this morning.

It’s brilliant you can remember exactly what you were doing and at what time a year ago, long may you run 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

There are some people here who remember certain runs that they ran more than some anniversaries or birthday's within their own families.

What a wonderful day my friend. A super time too on yet another 10k Al Style 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾 9 bottles to mark the auspicious day. Sending a big well done from my house to yours. Have a lovely rest of the day.

Thanks, GTFC, I enjoyed that run this morning, it was just at 11 am two years ago that I completed run 3 of week 9 of C25K, I remember the great feeling I had at the time. The weather here in Central Scotland is beautiful with lovely sunshine, the sun came out just after I finished my run this morning, you have a great day as well.

Thank you very much MartinKH on wishing me well on my 2nd-anniversary run, I intend to run 10/10K's and perhaps go onto further distances in July, I'll see how that goes, my tenth 10K will be run next Wednesday.

Congratulations on both your 2nd runniversary and your 9th 10k, it is a brilliant achievement since you finished C25k. Here's to many more happy running years for you and the best of luck for your 10th 10k and for progressing your distance.

All the best and happy running. :-)

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Forest_Run_Beginner

Indeed FRB, it was a good run this morning, I am a bit surprised at myself on continueing to run after two years after graduating, I only intended to run no further than 5K but then had ago at 10K which I have now ran 9 times, I just like running, well for the sake of running.

I submitted my 5K split time to that new "not parkrun website" but from now on it will only be on my Saturday morning 5K Virtual parkrun, not part of a longer run during the week.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Thank you ! 😬👍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

I can explain why I found week 4 difficult to remember, when I was doing C25K I did not have the up to date Smartphone I have now, it was a vintage phone of 2011, worked well for music and some apps, but not C25K, so I had to memorise all the runs from my laptop before I went out running, the phone I had then only had the time, that was why week 4 was so hard, not the run, but all the different times for walking and running, although run 3 of week 5 was longer, it was just a straight 20 minutes of running, no problem in remembering that, by the way I ran that 20 minute milestone run with no problems whatsoever, I now have updated new Smartphone and occasionally run, run 3 of week 5 for nostalgia, same with run 3 of week 6 when at the end Laura says that you are officially a runner, sounds good. 😊 🏃🏾

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Haha love it 😁

Trying to remember all those run/walk times 😂

I like the idea of re Running runs for nostalgia 😁👍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

The only mistake during the course was actually week 3, if I remember correctly I ran the runs 3 times where it should have been 2 times resulting in a 21 minutes workout, not 16 as it should have been. 😊

Happy runniversary to you Al 🎈🎉🎊🏃🙂 and on smashing your goal too!

Here’s to the next year for you and wishing you happy, injury-free running to your heart’s content 🥰

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Irishprincess

Yes, I have been lucky in avoiding any injuries over the last two years, I did have a slight hip pain when I ran/walked a 10K, I didn't count that run although perhaps I should have, what I did that day was I started running at 9am the run/walks of week 1 of C25K until my old smartphone told me it was 10K, I finished at 10.28, so that run/walk was 1 hour 28 minutes, in away I could have counted that as my first 10K but all those more recent 10Ks have all been ran with no walking breaks, after that unofficial 10K as I say I got a slight hip injury which delayed my first full 5k which I ran in 34.24.

It is a perfect route to run on, I can vary it around a little, it has several 1K loops which I can run round a few times, happy running to you as well 🏃🏾 👍

Well done Alan, a great runniversary present for you! I haven’t done a 10k since my first one a few weeks ago - I’m going back to the Magic Plan and build up to it again. I’ll be following right behind you!

AlMorr profile image

Good luck to you Oldgirlruns on your progress to also run a 10K again, in the early days I only intended to run 5K and no more, but I set myself a challenge to up it to 10K, like C25K take all the runs slow and steady 🏃🏾 👍. I enjoyed my second year runiversary graduation 10K today.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to lexi6

Thank you Lexi6, I enjoyed my second runiversary 9th 10K run on Thursday morning.

I began the run at half past seven when the weather was a bit misty and cloudy, by the time I completed the run the sun was breaking through the clouds to give us all a lovely sunny day.

I notice that parkruns in New Zealand are resuming on the 4th July.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Hope today’s weather is just as kind to you. Yes its good news about parkrun isn’t it? I’ve changed my mind too and have decided to go to ours on the 4th, it’ll be lovely to run with others for a change. Hope the weather is better, its rained for a week here. ☹️

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to lexi6

Over the last few days the UK weather has been warm and humid, that is why I began my run early yesterday to avoid the heat of later in the day, where I am in Central Scotland we have had sunshine but only after 9.30/10am, up to those times it has been cloudy and dull, but we have missed a lot of thunderstorms that other parts of the country have had, at least so far.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

👍 would love to see some of that sunshine right now, its just about to go dark here, not seen anything of the the hills behind our house today as they’ve been covered in mist.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Thanks Dexy5, the run was great, a nice way to celebrate two years since I graduated from C25K, I would say that I am very proud of my running achievements, I am thinking of going onto longer runs in July, perhaps running 2 kilometers a midweek run more each week and see how it goes. 😊 🏃🏾

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

I found that a 1km increase was enough for me when going up to 10 miles as that also kept within the 10% rule.

You have certainly got some lovely places to run on your doorstep Al.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

👍 🏃🏾

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Perhaps I should run ONE kilometers more, not two a week more in July, that way I would be keeping within the 10% rule..

Thanks, I intend to run my 10th 10K next Wednesday, after that in July I may run, 2 kilometers per week more on my midweek run and find out how far I can run, could be interesting. 😊

Mum22boys profile image
Mum22boysGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

I think this sounds like a good idea... obviously taking it sensibly... looking forward to seeing how far you get. You could even increase that 1k every other week 🏃‍♂️

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10

Sorry I missed this yesterday Al. I now know that your runniversary is exactly one week after mine, so it’ll be easy to remember. 😀

Great run, well done! 🎉 It sounds gorgeous - and your weather sounded dryer than on my 10k yesterday. I got drenched, but it was very welcome after all the humidity of late.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Sorry about the rain on your 10K yesterday, but as you say it was welcome after all that hot and humid weather, I enjoyed running my 9th 10K yesterday on the occasion of my 2nd graduation anniversary.

With only 1 more 10K to run until I have ran 10/10K's which I will run next Wednesday I was thinking of increasing by 2 Kilometres a week to get to 10 miles by the end of July but Dexy5 advised me to increase it by 1 Kilometer a week to keep within the 10% rule, so hopefully if all goes well I can run 10 miles or just over 16K by the end of July.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Oh don’t be sorry about my run in the rain Al, I absolutely loved it! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Yes, building up to 10 miles is similar to the journey to 10k. Take it easy and you’ll get there. We look forward to hearing how you progress. 😀🏃🏃🏃

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

I was going to make it 2K's a week more but advice from your friend Dexy5 suggested that I will like the journey to 10K gradually increase my runs by 1 kilometre a week, not 2.
