Well today was the day- almost exactly 4 months after I took my first huffing and puffing steps on c25k. Not ideal conditions it has to be said, too much wine last night and a heatwave to contend with but I was determined this would be it! I got up early, put on my most uplifting playlist, fired up Nike coach Bennett and off I trotted. Kept the pace down initially ( thatβs so hard) and knew I would do it despite getting very very hot and weary. I did however save a little for the end and did my version of a sprint π
I WAS the person who thought running was pointless, bad for your knees etc etc etc. Now though I have grown to love the feeling it gives you, the sheer enjoyment of being able to run and am somewhat amazed at what my my mid 50βs body has achieved.
The forum support has and will continue to be fantastic and adds hugely to my enjoyment of running, thank you all. What a superb bunch of supportive fellow runners you all areπ
I think I deserve a croissant now with my breakfast!!

Thanks Roxdog- in the second half I could see the average pace improving and once it got to under 6:30 I was determined to keep it there!! Hence the tiny sprint at the end just to make sure π
Woo hoooo!! π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
Well done you. A milestone run and a terrific time too. Well deserved and you'll be glowing all day π₯
Amazing, that's an absolutely fantastic first 10k, particularly with the temperatures as they are. You definitely deserve that croissant now, enjoy π
Celebrate well today and congratulations again ππββοΈπΎπ₯π₯ππ
Fantastic, and how very wonderful to have discovered, after all, you love to run, what joy π Looks like you were actually made for it all along ππ€
Thanks jorgeruns!!! I really love it- actually my head feels like I would like to go for another little trot round right now - must be the post running high I am experiencing- but my body would collapse!! I always preferred cycling but although running is harder for sure, it makes me feel ammmmazingπ
Thanks Oldgirlruns!! I got up early to try and beat the heat but the last couple of k were very hot- although I expect I would have resembled an over ripe tomato even in the arcticπ
Had a few wines myself last night and I'm now putting off going out to do my B210K final run of Wk1... π€’ I'm hoping it'll sort me out but this is probably just wishful thinking π€
Did you go? If not it was probably wise not toπ- I drank about a gallon of water last night to mitigate any unfortunate after effects then got up very early to beat the heat!!
I did indeed (I think we follow each other on Strava?) It was tough, legs like lead and the heat was torture but it's done so I can move on and get ready for wk2 π Back to work tomorrow so that will bring a load of new challenges for me to physically get out and keep running but I am determined to keep at it as I am really loving it.
Thanks couchphoenix!!!!! Never did a croissant- or two- taste so good, along with strong coffee and the Sunday papers, before whizzing off to orchestra practise which luckily meant sitting down all afternoon πΆ I
I am going to βjust runβ how and where I want after my final run of the 10k plan this week- prob next weekend, just to see if I can get a few more seconds off the 5k. That will be it regarding goals for a little while as I have pretty much done both plans back to back. I want to just enjoy running for a little while without being a Garmin slaveπ However I expect I will soon tire of βjust runningβ after a couple of weeks so might be joining you!! Am thinking of 10 miles next.....
Massive congratulations, that was a great 10k. I love what so many of us in our 50's and beyond can achieve with determination, dedication and support. Happy running π€
Thanks Grannyhugs, itβs amazing and wonderful isnβt it how we have all taken to this later in life- I absolutely hated cross country at school (always seemed to be muddy and freezing) and I think it scarred me for a long time!!!
