Hooray - that's it done - my first ever 10K! I'm a bit achey and knackered, but absolutely delighted!
I decided that today was the day as I could see work starting to ramp up and it was getting harder to find time to run during the day so I wanted to get that 10K in the bag while I'm still doing regular runs. The gremlins, of course, were out in full force.
I got myself ready to go, so well hydrated that I'd been to the bathroom about four times. Then I looked out the window and it was raining gently *cue gremlins*. There was a moment of wavering then I remembered starting C25k in February - running in rain, hail, sleet and gales - and thought that a little summer shower wasn't going to stop me. (*one gremlin swiped off my shoulder*) Got in the car and it started heaving down. The gremlins then started howling with laughter - one particularly nasty little critter on my other shoulder had a smug smile on its face. "You can drive down to the village and just come back if its too wet", it whispered.
By the time that I had parked and faffed about with my watch, music etc the rain was just gently drizzling so I lept smartly out of the car and locked the gremlins inside. I wore my lightweight cycling jacket just in case it turned nasty when I was 5K out with all that distance to come back. (That whacked another gremlin into the kerbside...)
Off I went and I was soon gently simmering in the jacket, which promptly got tied around my waist. The rain petered out and away I went and after the mandatory toxic 5, breathing was great, legs strong and all good with the world. When I hit the 5k mark I turned with a smug grin on my face and started back along the track. Wrestled with a couple of jelly babies on the return leg but they sucked the moisture out of my mouth and it was beginning to get a bit hotter. All well until the final 2k when I had to bring out the mantra - this time it was "My legs are strong, breathing perfect, I can do this". Actually, although this was true, unfortunately I was pretty weary as well. But I am nothing if not determined. So 1 hr and 26 mins later I ended with a punch in the air - 10k -yahoo!!!!!

Oh my goodness!! You've done it and I'm absolutely ecstatic for you!!! After my week away driving home today I just kept thinking about you!!! I am so pleased for you and that time is none too shabby either. We'll done Fionamags, you've worked so hard and been so determined from the start!!!! πππππyou deserve a large glass and a relaxing evening. ππ
Thanks Allison! I am chuffed to bits and a bit achey but I shall muster the energy to raise a glass or 3 this evening. Apparently red wine helps with recovery. π€£π€£π€£
Thanks! I am really, really delighted. Sore, but delighted. I really must crack on with that strength and flex now. No more running targets for now - just a wee run as and when to keep things ticking over.
Half marathon next? Maybe wait a while and just carry on running! You can achieve anything you want now! I have been smiling ever since I read your post!
Fantastic effort, a great 1st 10k. You taught the gremlins and the weather that you mean business. Now you know you can conquer 10k whenever you want to. Go relax and celebrate. Happy running π€
The Graduation Badge looks great against your name and well deserved. Especially with all those gremlins trying to distract you from your mission. π
This is fab, well done you, so pleased to read this post π like grannyhugs said, keep moving, a nice walk tomorrow and you'll help to combat the achiness. Hope you're still feeling really chuffed π
Fantastic news Fionamags - well done you! Itβs a brilliant feeling isnβt it?! And those pesky gremlins deserved everything they got I reckon! I hope youβre having a little celebration this evening!
Thanks! A big milestone as this was a first. Am creaking a bit less now thankfully so maybe won't be too stiff tomorrow. Glad to hear it gets easier - yon was wild! ππ
Amazing, well done on reaching your first 10k,that's fantastic news. I hope you have celebrated and relaxed for the rest of the day. And an extra well done for telling those gremlins who's boss, brilliant.
Fantastic achievement Fionamags, Iβll be punching the air too when I achieve that distance. To run that far on a day as hot as today is amazing, well done you, youβve every right to feel proud of that run πββοΈππ»ππ»
Thanks - but it wasn't that hot in Scotland. Strava said it was 19Β° so nothing like what folk down south are dealing with. Of course for us lot it was like the Med. π€£π€£
Congratulations! π You must feel on top of the world! I shall think about you locking your gremlinsπΎπΉ in the car whenever mine try to hinder me going out π.
And tbe next badge is 10 miles, I believe? Not today thanks - I'm feeling happy with 10k. A longer distance would see me out half the day. π€£π€£π€£ So before I even consider a longer distance I want to be a good deal faster. Either that, or retired.
Thanks. Definitely feeling v pleased with myself!!!
Absolutely brilliant Fionamags, really happy for you, loved reading your post, your descriptions of your gremlins and sorting them out made me smile. Theyβll have no power over you now π¬ππππ€
