10K before the snow! 🌨

Up and out promptly this morning as the weather forecast said it was going to snow. Chilly enough for my jacket and gloves. I decided on ‘A 10K Run’ with Coach Bennett, no music.

Started easy as per instructions from CB 😊. It makes the run so much better! If I’m chasing a PB, I still start easy, but maybe not quite so easy. It doesn’t seem to be an exact science. I head out of the village and it’s very quiet this morning, not much traffic, so no diving into the hedge required! It’s a main road, but not particularly wide, so I have to be prepared. I turn left onto the more rural part of the run, 3K done and I’m feeling warmed up. First 4K all over 8:00 mins/km but I don’t mind, just taking it steady. I feel myself starting to increase pace, but I back off if I think I’m starting to go too fast. I note that I’m actually getting a bit fed up with this guided run. I’ve probably done it about 7 or 8 times. I’m just thinking that I need something different and my mobile rings and pauses the run! I miss the call with all the faffing about and decide not to restart CB.

I’m getting warmer and off comes the jacket! I realise that this run seems harder than usual and decide that there’s no reason for it, it’s just one of those runs. I debate cutting it short. If I leave out the Deadend Track, I could just do 8K 😈, no-one would know 😊. I come out of the lane and turn left onto the main road. I’m approaching the turning for the track! Should I? Shouldn’t I? Although it’s more of an effort, I’m right into the run now. 10K was my plan and I’ll be disappointed if I don’t do it. I kick the gremlin into touch, turn right to go up the Deadend Track and look down it. Seems to go on forever today - but I run on right to the end and turn round to come back. I’m almost at 9K and like to finish strong so I pick up the pace. Out again onto the main road and it’s all out effort as a flock of Whoopers fly overhead. I glance at my watch and I’m in heart rate Zone 5. For some reason I think about getting a notch for my bracelet ‘If I collapse, pause my watch’ 😂.

The run is over and I’m not far from home! Perfectly timed.

Looking at the stats, my last 6 kilometres were all faster than 8:00 with the last one the fastest at 6:53. I’m happy with that. 👍 But is that sweat on my brow? Surely not 😂.

That sounds so good, I’m struggling to run round all the people at the moment, going to try a village run tomorrow rather than park, has it snowed yet?

No people to run round here! Yes, it snowed this afternoon, quite heavily for a while, but it seems to have stopped now.

Let’s hope you get a good white picture to post next time, i love the snow but we have had none so far

Great run, how did you enjoy running without your coach and music? I've run" naked" for over a year, empowering to be in total control. Happy running 🤗

Thanks, I’ve tried running ‘naked’ a couple of times and like it! Today, I hardly noticed the absence of Coach Bennett. Sometimes I’m just in the mood for the silence. I’ve been debating going for a run and not receiving any notifications from my watch, except maybe for one for the end of the run. That might be interesting!

I keep trying that, but as I've been running to HR I do kind of have to keep looking although I'm convinced every time I look HR goes up a bit. You wonder how we managed all these years before technology told us everything about ourselves 🤣

Great results. I knew all along that you’d not give in to those interruptions and gremlin voices. This is J, I said to myself; she’ll bag this run. And you did, of course! Imagining you running that final stretch with the power of the flock of flying whopper swans in your stride. 👍💪🏼🏃🏼‍♀️

Thanks - yes, those swans saw me over the finish line!

Thank you. It didn’t feel that good while I was running it, but Strava tells me it was my second fastest time. Although I know I’m pretty slow, it still pleased me 😊

Still no snow here, although its a slight possibility tonight/tomorrow.

Another nice 10k run though Julia - those splits are impressive. But what I want to know is did you touch the gate at the end of the Deadend Track?

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Thanks, Diane. There’s no gate at the end of the Deadend Track, it’s open to the fields beyond. It’s the other track near the river that has the gate. I no longer touch it with my hand, but with my foot!

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to Jools2020

Ah I see. Probably wise not to touch anything with your hands if you can avoid doing so.

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Exactly! Especially if you know a lot of other people are touching it. Which they do.

Heh, well done, and not listening to that naughty gremlin 🤣 6.53 on the last km 🥵 and overall a decent time. I've turned of notifications on last few runs, which has been quite nice, and not listening to music much, as i've my daughter with me. I feel like we're running with you, down that dead end lane, always sounds so peacefull, your running routes! 😊

Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Peter44

Thanks, Peter. It seemed like hard work this morning! My routes are mostly peaceful and quiet, it’s very rural here. I’m very tempted to turn off notifications! I’ll try it for a shorter run first, I think. Im not sure how I’ll cope 😂

I was just like that, so used to it, ever since start of c25k! Oh, the tights came out again today, thought it was colder out, but i too got a bit warm, my PC t-shirt, is thicker than my usual running stuff. 🥵

Well done for not cutting your run short and knocking that gremlin in to touch and completing another 10k run.

That last km was fast 💨 you always finish so strong. You are doing brilliant continuing to run 3 times a week.

That did make me smile regarding a notch for your bracelet ‘If I collapse, pause my watch’!!! I love that!!

Thanks, Rebecca 😊. That last km was tough. There really is a notch that says that! I’m tempted to buy it. I have all the milestone notches for the distances I’ve run and a friend bought me two motivational ones as well. Love my notch bracelet 😊

Well done that all sounds good. I have not had good runs recently. Breathing bad etc today I returned to the trusted C25k Last run with jo Wiley and some running music. Seemed to go alot better. I guess it’s the mixing it up that helps! Hopefully I will get back to a 10k soon. Thanks for inspiring post xx

Thank you 😊 Mixing it up certainly helps. I just keep plodding on, shorter runs in the week, longer at the weekend. Sometimes I suddenly see an improvement. Sometimes I don’t, but I always feel better for getting out there 😊
