Up and out promptly this morning as the weather forecast said it was going to snow. Chilly enough for my jacket and gloves. I decided on ‘A 10K Run’ with Coach Bennett, no music.
Started easy as per instructions from CB 😊. It makes the run so much better! If I’m chasing a PB, I still start easy, but maybe not quite so easy. It doesn’t seem to be an exact science. I head out of the village and it’s very quiet this morning, not much traffic, so no diving into the hedge required! It’s a main road, but not particularly wide, so I have to be prepared. I turn left onto the more rural part of the run, 3K done and I’m feeling warmed up. First 4K all over 8:00 mins/km but I don’t mind, just taking it steady. I feel myself starting to increase pace, but I back off if I think I’m starting to go too fast. I note that I’m actually getting a bit fed up with this guided run. I’ve probably done it about 7 or 8 times. I’m just thinking that I need something different and my mobile rings and pauses the run! I miss the call with all the faffing about and decide not to restart CB.
I’m getting warmer and off comes the jacket! I realise that this run seems harder than usual and decide that there’s no reason for it, it’s just one of those runs. I debate cutting it short. If I leave out the Deadend Track, I could just do 8K 😈, no-one would know 😊. I come out of the lane and turn left onto the main road. I’m approaching the turning for the track! Should I? Shouldn’t I? Although it’s more of an effort, I’m right into the run now. 10K was my plan and I’ll be disappointed if I don’t do it. I kick the gremlin into touch, turn right to go up the Deadend Track and look down it. Seems to go on forever today - but I run on right to the end and turn round to come back. I’m almost at 9K and like to finish strong so I pick up the pace. Out again onto the main road and it’s all out effort as a flock of Whoopers fly overhead. I glance at my watch and I’m in heart rate Zone 5. For some reason I think about getting a notch for my bracelet ‘If I collapse, pause my watch’ 😂.
The run is over and I’m not far from home! Perfectly timed.
Looking at the stats, my last 6 kilometres were all faster than 8:00 with the last one the fastest at 6:53. I’m happy with that. 👍 But is that sweat on my brow? Surely not 😂.
