Phone v Watch

Phones in belts / arm holders.. i have always carried mine in an arm holder, then in April to present day in a flipbelt.

June my phone exploded..the maker said my phone had been subjected to repeated external trauma, causing battery to swell.

As it had never been dropped; I'm concerned that running with phone may have caused adverse effects ?

Has anyone came across this before... or do use smart watches?

I've been running with my phone in an arm holder for most of a year - no adverse effects, also dropped it a few times, not while running. I do however wear a garmin forerunner 35 permanently- love, love, love all the stats. The phone comes with me on a run purely in case of incident where I need to make a call. Only done this once when decided on long run away from home and had to call for lift back🤣 happy running 🤗

Thankyou x

Manufacturer winning, as they've now returned my phone. Could've lost my hand etc , and / or burnt house down. Instead I've a burnt carpet and an awful shock to get over. Reckon they're wriggling out of responsibility and I'm a minion compared to them..

Eek! 😱 Never heard of this before and would be surprised if running could cause this. I use both. I carrry my phone in the back pocket of my running tights - for music and in case of emergency. I never run without it especially as I do a lot of off road running in quite isolated areas. I track my runs with my Garmin watch though. 🙂

I ran with my phone a lot... not something I’ve experienced or heard of at all. I tend to run by watch now as it’s more convenient to check during the run, which I really shouldn’t 🤣

Hmm, I sense a manufacturer trying to wriggle out of taking responsibility here.....

That must have been an awful shock for you and though bad enough as it was, thank goodness it wasn't any worse.

I always run with my iPhone tucked into my shorts back waist pocket or my flip belt. I used to use it for tracking my runs on the free Strava app, but now have a Garmin Forerunner 45s for that. I still run with my phone for emergencies.

I hope you get somewhere with the manufacturer 🤞🏼.

They've said their piece , returned all and wiped their hands clean of responsibility..

Glad I'm still out there running tbh, as u say it could have been so much worse.

It’s not a Samsung is it? 😂 I seem to remember they had a phone that spontaneously combusted 😧

Repeated external trauma 🙄 what a load of nonsense, they were definitely trying it on. The batteries inside phones naturally swell over time from the constant charging.

What a relief that it wasn’t more serious for you 🙂

Not sure where you’re based but if in the UK you’ve some options. How did you buy it and how old is it? You could send them a ‘letter Before action’ basically say you will take legal action if they don’t help. You could take them to the small claims court, not expensive. Look on the internet Martin Lewis website is very helpful. A phone is costly so may be worth the effort
