Watch out for Dogs

I went out early this morning and had only just started when i came upon a man with 3 dogs, 2 lurchers and a greyhound. He held one and said don't worry they are friendly so I carried on and the greyhound came running past gave a growl and grabbed my t-shirt. Luckily it didnt get my skin and ran off but it left a hole in my t-shirt! I think it was a friendly growl and he was very apologetic but it could of been much worse! I love dogs and have no problem with him having them of the lead but i will be more wary in future.

Yes, it could have been worse the owner should have kept the dog on its lead

Glad you are ok fattofit50. I am a dog lover too but if that had been a child or the dog had not just grabbed clothing, things could have been worse! It does sound as though the owner was taken by surprise and so hopefully will hang on to his dogs when runners are around in future. All breeds that love to chase too!

I have always praised the dog owners in my local area on here. Generally speaking if a dog is left off the lead, I assume it is fine to run past. Up to now, they always have been.🤞 Many owners will just hold the dogs collar as I run past and I always thank them.🙂

That's not on, It caused damage!

Obviously he couldn't control 3 dogs, so shouldn't be off lead, some owners can't control 1 dog let alone 3!

That’s not good fattofit50 and the owner should have kept it on a lead and offered to buy you a new top 👎

Sorry, but I don’t think that is no harm done! The dog got a mouthful of t-shirt but it could easily have been a mouthful of you! It’s not acceptable to just say ‘oh he’s friendly’ - he might well be most of the time but with dogs, you never know what might startle them into aggression. If the owner can’t keep better control he shouldn’t have let them off the lead - and he certainly shouldn’t have 3 all doing their own thing! Well done you on keeping your cool (don’t think I would have done!), I hope you don’t come across them again for a while!-

Greyhounds are bred to chase and catch things and I thought they were supposed to wear a muzzle because of this. Maybe it’s only ex racers. Glad you are okay though but it’s not okay for people to own dogs that they can’t control either verbally or on lead.

I really think you should report it to the police. Bit daunting I know but having a dog dangerously out of control is a serious offence.

First of all I'm glad the dog got a bite of your t-shirt and not you. Maybe in future he should keep them all on a lead as after all the outdoors is for everyone.

I have a Jack Russell (Buddy) and he hates runners but is always on my inside and in a lead. Glad you're okay 😊

Thanks for your comments I don't think for a minute it was a nasty grab, more of a playful nip but for someone scared of dogs it could of been quite scary. Goes to show if you are a dog owner not to always trust that they will behave! If i see him again i will walk past and maybe make friends with them . Of course its a good excuse to have a new t-shirt! Every cloud and all that!

Unfortunately this does happen. I always stop until the owners have total control of their days- I dont trust them not to enjoy chasing me. Happy running 🤗

I had a scary moment with dogs the other week . . . I met a pack of hounds being exercised down a country track 🤔 There must have been at least 40 or more of them coming towards me, luckily there were 4 people on bikes with them keeping them under control so they passed by without indecent, but a little unnerving 😏

This annoys me so much! I was tripped up by a really friendly little dog that was off its lead, and thought it was a game to try and run through my legs. So now I always stop for off the lead dogs, and it's saved me from being jumped on at least twice. Owners are always apologetic, but it's Too Late then! (I always, always thank the dog owners who control their dogs properly for me - the vast majority)

I get really annoyed by dog owners who come out with “oh he’s only being friendly, he won’t hurt you”. Most owners are responsible, most dogs are ok, but... I am sorry this happened to you.

I was so sad to read this 😞. Glad you are ok but makes me cross that it happened to you. I have always had lurchers and lead walk mine. they are chasers... it’s in their nature. They are bouncy and yes they can often growl when chasing even though it’s not usually an aggressive growl. I am glad the owner was apologetic and hope they act more responsibly in the future.

I'm sure it was a friendly growl and he was very apologetic. I went for a run this morning and no mishaps though was more cautious with any dogs i encountered!

I too like dogs but was bitten (again) earlier this week by an unattended dog. Please report to police. This is easy to do online and gives visibility of the problem and records incident.
