So yesterday I planned to do a run around my local reservoir. It’s about 12k door to door all the way which is far too far so part way round and then get picked up from the car park was the plan. I knew a certain spot was roughly 7k (my longest run so far was 6.6k) so that was the aim to get to. So off I go and after 5 mins my app tells me my distance as 0.44 miles and a pace of 11 something. Miles?? What are they?? 😱 I’d fiddled with the settings and changed it to miles so I had no idea what pace I was running or where my 7k end would be! So I carried on, got to the so called end spot, but wanted to be sure I’d done enough so carried on a bit. Ended up doing 7.66k with a pace of 6.59 which really surprised me as normally I’m over 7 unless I really push myself. And this was the 3rd outing in new shoes. Over the first 2 runs I’d managed to knock almost 2 mins off my 5k time and now easily added a km!! Am very pleased 😀
What are miles???!!!: So yesterday I planned... - Bridge to 10K
What are miles???!!!
When you are used to kilometres then miles can be a bit confusing or the other way around, I use kilometres, if nothing else they come quicker than miles, on most long-distance runs over 10K such as HM or marathons the markers on the route are in Ks and miles, especially a full marathon which is just over 26 miles/42 kilometres.
Fantastic effort - miles obviously suit you very well. Maybe a lesson for us all - stop checking the watch to see how we are doing 🤣 One Day you will run the whole way round. Happy running 🤗
Miles are chunks of 1609m, or 1.609km if you will. I like training in miles as it means my watch vibrates less times, and I have less of them to count off. While some in Britain who like the mile are accused of clinging on to our old units, miles cane from Rome long ago.
Anyways... great run in any units!
Ha ha well done!
I work in km but my friends all work in miles so I spend my life converting between the two. I’m getting quite fast at it now 🤣
