In April I graduated C25K and yesterday was my final run in JuJu's Magic 10k Plan and what a brilliant plan! Each week I used the shorter run as my 'fast' run the middle distance was the 'recovery' run and I took my time over the longer distances. Rest days were spent either cycling, kayaking or doing pilates and planks, it's been a busy few week but it paid off!
I had a route in mind and planned to follow a bike loop of 15k that I'd done a few days earlier, I was to run the first 10k and walk the final 5k home. So out the door I went water supply on board and an energy bar in my pocket. I had the relax, enjoy, slow down mantra playing in my head and I really was enjoying it. Then my head started talking to my legs, I never run alone, 'If you do the first 5k and then slow right down for the middle 5k, you might not have to walk home'. So thats what they did..... I did a mental check to see if everyone was on board and upped the speed for the last K and then added another as all was still going well. So my 10k turned into 10 Miles and a huge grin.
Lots of stretching when I got home and a hot bath. No aches or pains this morning, but I did remind myself that it probably wasn't the most sensible thing to do.
The next few days will be rest days, followed by some short and gentle recovery runs whilst I plan my next running adventure. Half marathon?
Happy running and have a great weekend.
