Doesn’t it .......... insert rude word and a giggle 🤭
No speed really doesn’t matter and at 64 I (sola) have always known that I’ll never run fast, but the walking, the hills and probably most of all the not smoking, have made a difference, my legs are stronger my lungs are stronger and I can run faster (a bit) for longer
Today we ran 3k in 20 minutes and with a niggly knee that was enough for Willow but darned good so while he had a little sit down i went on to finish 5k in 45 minutes 51 seconds.....a PB for me wow
Speed doesn’t matter it really doesn’t for me it’s the ability to run but I am grinning 😃
Oh and as I can’t post my screenshot have a photo of last nights walk on the beach

You're absolutely right! As long as you feel good with what you've done/accomplished then that's ALL that matters. Judging by your post you're feeling good! 😉
Thanks Buddy, it really doesn’t matter how far or how fast but a PB is rather exciting, today it just went well
So true, and you are so right that you have the ability to run. Grin away and keep going out and exploring as long as you possibly can. Love this, it gave me a glow inside x
Haha....tell my gremlins that🥴. Fantastic pic you always make me envy your environment😍. Fantastic that you're feeling so good. I know I need to take a leaf out of your book and just accept. Happy running WillowandSola 🏃🏃
I told the gremlins to go live somewhere else, so if a run isn’t going well we just come home and call it a short one, we went out Sunday after work, our usual running park was full of families kids and dogs so we drove off to the river and the cars parked both sides of the road suggested we wouldn’t be able to run without dodging people, so went to the hilly woods, by which time I was in a right strop , marched up the hill through the woods muttering that i’d wanted a flat run, along the top where is got busier with people so ran back through the woods the other side, one and a half k of steep hill jumping tree roots and dodging nettles and finished so much happier only to find id left Willow somewhere so joggled slowly back up the wooded hill until i found him and ran back down mood beautifully lifted. We are lucky in that a fifteen minute walk gets us to the south downs one way or the sea the other way
You are very fortunate but not just for your location. I love your mindset. 😍If my run doesn't go to plan I give up.🤨 I'm amazed at what you went through to get your run in. Yourperseverance is commendable. I think I've got a new mantra 🤔. "Be more Sola"😅😅😅
What a lovely post and it made me smile 😊. I am still working towards that 5k but I accept it will happen, eventually..... Super effort with your PB Sola 🤩! Happy running guys 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Thanks Al, Willows knee isn’t bad, I think the hills don’t help, yes my daughters collie, the beach is his favourite place and at the moment we have evening low tide
In my running club everyone my age has been getting slower for decades. I’m getting quicker. Alright I’ll never be quick but it’s nice to see the gains. It’s all about the pace.
A bit tongue in cheek because really for me it's about pushing the distance on a pensioners arthritic legs but I do love a PB. However, when I achieve that 26.2 my bragging won't be humble.
I really get that, mostly for me it’s further and longer rather than faster but nice to know i can get a bit faster, our first 5k took 52 minutes so anything under that is a bonus
Oh and to wash all my clothes, each day is now 2 sets, one to wear on the journey to and from work and one to wear at work, it’s so lucky i have a pile of stretchy black trousers and a heap of tee shirts and shirts
I can feel the big smile on your face. Congratulations on the pb and for generally feeling fitter and healthier. Oh and super picture... can't wait to see the sea again...
The sea is different every day every time we see it, we were lucky yesterday as had a walk along the top of the beach at high tide after work then my daughter said join them for evening dog play on the beach in the evening
Lovely photo and a great post. Its so good to hear you celebrating all ur wins - stopped smoking, running for longer (and casually mentioning hills too...) healthier and don't care about the .....now that might be the tiniest porky??? A PB - yeahhhhhhh!!!
Nah speed isn’t on my list of wants or needs, it’s just fun to get a PB I nearly entered a half Marathon but decided I probably wouldn’t get to the end in time and I’d rather run for fun, oh hills, it’s really steep going up but a joy to run down again through the woods like a couple of kids, it does put a strain on Willows knees though so today’s plan was short and slow, it just went so well
Fantastic WillowandSola!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽! Congratulations on the PB!! 🤗 Of course...smile!! You’ve got every reason to!! Love the photo too. It must be so lovely to have the beach nearby!! 🥰❤️
Yep at 63 I’ve had to learn speed doesn’t matter. Just getting out there and doing it is what counts. Wish I had such a beautiful place to run/walk. Missing the sea in this lockdown xx
Heading for 70, speed doesn’t matter; for hubby and I it’s the distance. We regularly do 10k, 5k if we’re doing other stuff, and in lockdown we’ve done 2 half marathons (just to prove a local ‘running’ club wrong), obviously all the preparation runs too.
Do what you can, and remember- age is simply a number.
Well done. I too judge my runs not by the speed but how long I can run for. I am still amazed that at age 65 I can actually run continuously for over 30 minutes. The how comfortable I am running seems to depend on the temperature. When the temperature gets above 15degrees I really struggle as I get so hot and turn bright red. This morning's run felt good and I managed about 40 minutes of running .
Well done! I totally agree about speed, I would still like to get a sub 30 min 5K, very doubtful I know, but just happy to be able to run. Unfortunately or some may say fortunately, the runs I do locally are basically flat. Some new routes I have found the terrain is not too good, there are a couple of inclines, so I have to watch my step! The morning of my 74 th birthday, end of May, I decided to try a new route, and do 7.4k to celebrate 🤗😂 I set off around 6.45am and just took it easy. My route took me on to the Trent bank, not a cloud in the sky, and the highlight was the sound of the Cuckoo, something I hadn’t heard for a number of years . I finished in 1.10 . Still 2k from home, so a nice easy walk home to be greated with Breakfast in the Garden. So I agree with you, Speed doesn’t matter, just getting out there and being able to do it, is all that matters. 🤗
That sounds perfect John, I haven’t heard a cuckoo for a few years either, used to when i lived nearer to the woods than the sea but moved south (a whole mile) 8 years ago so now on a quiet night at high tide can hear the waves crashing on the beach if the tide is high
Same here - I now have distance goals rather than speed goals - but always want to check my stats to see what my pace was!
My dodgy knee was getting stronger - I actually ran WITHOUT knee supports last week - big mistake as I was feeling niggles afterwards and postponed my running for 7 days just to make sure it had extra time to rest. Double knee supports donned yesterday, the run was OK but boy oh boy my hamstrings were tight and it took a couple of gentle k at the start to loosen them up!
You are so lucky to be close to the beach! Such beautiful scenery, it must be a joy for you each time you go out!
Thank you and i’m pleased you are able to run, knees can be so disabling
The sea is a wonderful place to be by but for me it’s the woods that bring me most joy as i grew up in the countryside surrounded by woods and fields and very few houses
