Stomped those gremlins good!!!

Really late morning run for me this morning. Didn’t get out the door till 9.53!!! Lay there making excuses...” I could run tomorrow ..”etc then remembered that

A it’s bin day tomorrow and I hate Bin day Slalom

B I’m supposed to be waiting in for a delivery

So.... up and at ‘em.... except I then dithered and had half a cup of coffee.. no banana cos I’d run out. ( shopping coming tomorrow to so that’s ok)... chatted to the cats....then I kicked my own ass and got out there!!!

Last couple of runs have been a struggle and I think that’s what was putting me off so I decided just 30 min run... no pressure and I put the week 9 podcast on for a bit of help from Laura. First few mins were a struggle then my watch buzzed 1k and I glanced at it to see 8.06mins. Brain immediately starts calculating “ you could do 5k in 40 mins if you stepped on it now. “( Ive been struggling with my 5k time for ages now and keep trying to get to my 37min PR again). Then the gremlins popped up “ don’t be daft YOULL never do it”. So I drop kicked those 2 gremlins over the nearest hedge into the River Yeo and ran on.

I crossed the road and ran along and up Abbey Road and through the cut through. I suddenly seemed to get speedier along here and felt really good “ maybe I’ll get a PR along here, there are a couple of segments here I’ve done well in before ...”. Another runner was coming towards me, young girl of about 25... slim,, effortlessly running... and another little gremlin reared his head. “ look at her!! A PROPER runner! And you puffing along!!”. I managed to nudge that one into the ditch and smiled at the other runner as we crossed paths. And that km I did at 7.56!!!

I came out into Pottington Road and turned back towards town. and there he was ...grinning at me .... “ you could just do 3 k and call it a day you know” ....until I managed to shove THAT gremlin out into the traffic and under a lorry. “So just for that I WILL carry on and run 5k this morning!!!” Which I did. The actual 5 k was about .2 of a second under 40 mins but I beat every damned one of those gremlins.

Except for the one that fixed it so that my watch didn’t pick up GPS. And I’m sure I’d have had some PBs on that run!!! Garmin connect thought I’d done a treadmill run. But I did get a Treadmill 5k badge so not all bad 🤣🤣🤣

Excellent job with the Gremlins. They will probably go quiet for a bit now. The little sods hide away when all is going well. Keep 'em under pressure!
