Week 1 Run 1

2.5k was just what I needed today. I started running as a New Year’s resolution and as part of rehab following a patella injury in April last year. I completed C25K early in lockdown, ran a sub 29 mins 5k early in May and had been building speed and distance. A little over a week ago, I’d already run 5k when I tripped over a tree root and landed heavily on that knee again! For all the pain and irritation this actually came at a good moment. I’ve been on an upward trajectory for 5 months without really taking any break. This fall made me pause and reset my goals. I’ve bought some new running shoes, found the 10k programme, and having rested the knee for 9 days allowing the bumps and cuts to heal (walking only), completed the first 2.5k run this morning. Neither the knee nor the shoes disappointed and now I’m looking forward to Run 2 on Monday!

You deserve your success Outdoorsy. My start on C25k was injury driven too (fractured vertebrae). Running Is such a gift. What is it about knee caps? I am having trouble with mine at present ....almost sorted I think, but I clattered it again by kicking a tree root last week.....roots are deadly!! I am sure that they reach out to trip you up as you pass.....I really enjoyed the trip up to 10k; The long slow run each week to build up distance strength and stamina was a great foundation for later exploits! You are really going to enjoy the programme. 🙂
