7k dusted me

I made it but almost crawled home. Learning to run in the cold seemed easier than running in the hot and steamy. Holy cow. I’m concerned about 8k cuz I left everything I had on the road today. Ran slow, well hydrated, well slept.

Hi dieOR5k ...try not to dread your next run...and put this run straight in the bag...DO NOT think about it anymore, it was just one of those runs...and even though you were well prepared for this one it just didn’t let you enjoy it..but you still did it...I’m sure this will make your next feel so much better...& it’s these kind of runs that keep us going out to look for those good feeling ones...keep going, you’re doing a cracking job 😉

Thanks Mummycav. Just didn’t ever remember feeling this ragged after. Took about an hour to recover. You’re correct though, in the bag is in the bag. And I do the long run first each week just to get it done.

Try and run early morning or later in the evening. Running in heat is brutal. Also get a lightweight white/ light coloured running cap.

Something like this:

Thanks Tasha. I’ve been used to running midday for cold weather and I really enjoy it. I think it’ll have to be early. The hat is a good idea. Sunglasses were just not enuf.

I need something to keep the direct sunshine off my head 🥵

Hot running is hard, if you can vary the time of the run check the forecast and keep to the shady side of tracks if possible. Think also about slowing down a bit, I know it means being out a bit longer but you may net get so exhausted. You are doing great to reach 7k but if the heat is too much, don’t make yourself ill, longer runs will still be there on cooler days, you may just have to adjust which runs you do when. Happy running 🤗

It took 60 min to run 7k, so I expect ~90m for 10k. I’m an early girl for coffee and the news. Looks like I’ll need to trade that with my run time as I can’t do midday an further. I’m being paid back for cursing the snow we had in early May 🤦‍♀️.

You are about the same time as me for your 7k. I run early and REALLY early when it’s hot like this. I’ve just been planning how early I need for tomorrow’s run as I struggled in 12 degrees yesterday and it’s 15-17 here the same time tomorrow!! Might have to go an hour earlier 😫

Congratulations on running your 7k. Just keep going and as others have suggested it might be a good idea to run at a cooler time of the day. Keep up with 2-3 litres of water every day and sometimes more when it's hot like this. You're doing great. If it's any consolation I felt like you last year running in the heat and this time round I'm coping so much better. Well done you 😊😊

I realized, after I scraped myself up, that I’ve doubled my running time since graduating. I used consolidation to actually get to 5k+. So I just need to acknowledge progress and snail forward.

Each time you run a 10k that exhausted feeling gets less and less. 👍

I also started running in the cold weather and was shocked at how much harder I am finding it in the warmer weather! Today I slowed down, was more hydrated and also did it early morning - this all helped me today. You’re doing really well - good luck 😊

I thought I was hydrated, but I think I’ll need to double my water intake. Thanks for your support, this would be too damn hard alone.

I started couch in the cold weather. Running when hot is tough. My face is shocking when I’m done - red, red, red, with a few big white bits! It ain’t pretty!

Me too. Mine felt overheated 🥵 for a long time.

Well done, you completed your run even if you found it hard. Those are the ones that count! 💪

You’ll be fine next time out if you’re mindful of the time of day you run, and slow it all down. No need for heroics on those longer runs when you’re building up. 😀

Enjoy it! 👍

March. 18 consolidation runs working on 5k regardless of time.

I'm finding running in the heat a real killer also. I'm almost longing for those cold winter evenings.

I must really up my water consumption and I wait until the cooler evening as I'm not an early bird .

I hear from more experienced runners that it does get easier the more fit you become and you teach your body to dig deep .

Very well done 🎉...and I agree, it's bloomin hard work in the heat!

Wearing a baseball hat helps 🧢, and getting up and out early...I like a lie in but set my alarm for 7 today coz it was either that or I knew I'd struggle to run, or find an excuse not to!

Best of luck on your next long one, it's certainly a challenge building up distance but you're doing really well so far 🙂👍

Thanks Run46. It’s ironic as I’m a fair weather person that hates cold. Now that I’m a runner (I haven’t got tired of saying that), I prefer it much cooler.
