So last night I went out and finally cracked the 12K that is the next run on my little plan that I have put together. It has been hard as down here in the southern hemisphere, getting time to head out has been difficult as I start work as the sun rises and finish about an hour before it sets so the last bit of my run ended up in the dark last night. The last couple of km I was just running around the streets trying to keep to the lit paths (I wasnt too worried for safety, I had my rottie with me and I live in a sleepy country town). It has also been so cold, which I have not yet adapted to (and tbh not sure I ever will) even though it probably nothing compared to what you regularly deal with in the UK. Im considering investing in a buff and some gloves to keep me toasty....
I had been struggling with this distance for a couple of weeks - so I am behind my planned schedule by a couple of weeks now (but its not like I have any deadline so it doesnt matter at all). Im just happy that I finally made it. I think part of it is that I dont like running new routes on my long ones - I tried a coastal route last week but gave up after 7km, even though I wasnt feeling too bad. But there were so many people and cyclists on the path I think I just got tired of the constant zigzag.
I did nearly give up at 3km on this long one too, as I developed a bit of a stitch. But thankfully my stubbornness kicked in and I just slowed right down and kept going. The dog also usually gets a bit tired around the 8km mark so I plan my route to be able to stop quickly and drop her home - but this time she had a spring in her step the whole way - not sure if she is getting fitter or just prefers running in the cold!
Anyway I am just happy that I was able to make it. And theoretically in only 4 more weeks Ill be at 10 miles which is my current goal!
