Worst one yet!!!

I think it’s probably because I am having lots of really broken nights sleep. Too hot... I spent half the night on top of my very thin quilt. I have the window open too but then I can hear a mouse fart 3 fields away and I wake up. I’ve tried not drinking too much before I go to bed, then I wake up thirsty. Too much and I wake up for a pee...🤣 and everything aches lately. Too much sitting about I think. I try to get out and run or have a long walk every day and I potter in the garden and I’m up and down the stairs all day too. But I seem to have lost the knack of a decent night’s sleep.

With that in mind I woke again!!! at 6.00 am and got up and into my gear. Came down and waded through my pride of lions ( well that’s what they are like in the mornings)and fed them. Found myself a small banana and half a cup of coffee and off I went. Rather annoyed to find someone had dumped one of their black bags full of rubbish in my black bin, as I put my last bits in it and wheeled it out. Cheeky gits!!! I wouldn’t mind if they’d asked as I barely cover the bottom of mine but it IS a bit cheeky.

And off I went. I walked up my usual slope to the main road and even that was an effort this morning but I thought I’d be fine once I’d got going. And basically I never really got going. I could not get past plodding today. Usually I put on a burst sailing downhill into the park but I couldn’t really get up steam today and the same when I got to the cenotaph. I usually try to beat my own PR to the Square but I could not get any faster.

So when he said “ that’s it. You can walk “ and I glanced at my watch and saw 6.48k I thought Sod it!! At least I’m going to carry on to 7k again. And I did.

It was slow!!!It was agony!!!but I’ve done it.

Just about to soak in the bath now. My eldest is popping round later and we are supposed to be going on a socially distant walk. Let’s hope he doesn’t want to go too far 😫😫

Oh limberlou you really sound like you need a decent sleep. Try and relax and enjoy your walk later on😊😊

I might resort to my Nytol tonight. Every night I think “ I’m so tired I’m bound to sleep “ and then don’t. It will be Milo and a Nytol at 9.30 I think and then bed at 10.

Well at least you did it, and 7k too, nothing wrong with that 👍😊 . . . just think how far you could go with a good nights sleep 😁

That’s what I thought. I’m never going to be very fast but against myself I’m getting slower. And I made sure I ate well and hydrated well yesterday too ☹️. That’s why I’m sure it’s lack of sleep. When I think back to last summer when I ran for over 3 hours non stop and now I’m running 18 mins and 1 min walk and still struggling. It’s taking a while to build back up after that nasty virus at end of last year/ beg if this one.. still inclined to wonder if it was an early coronavirus ....????

It does take a while to get over things and especially as you get older, I've certainly noticed that, and I'm speaking as a 63 year old myself 😏

I gave up smoking over 35 years ago and haven’t had a cough since, not until I had flu for 3 weeks when I was just 65 and my boss went let me leave to go for my flu jab!! I’ve had asthma ever since. And then I had that virus for 3 months from mid Oct to beg of Jan, and 3 chest infections throughout it, and I have never coughed so much in my life. Not even when I had whooping cough when I was 18 and lost 3 stone and cracked a rib coughing.

It’s taken me a long time to come back from that!!

We came back from a Chinese holiday in November and I think we've both had it. I was ill for a couple of months.

Yes we have a couple of local colleges that have a high Chinese population who go home for holidays. And they used to come into Curry’s all the time, where I was working for the last part of last year. It will be interesting to see what the antibody test says .... if it ever gets as far as Devon.

I feel you, I had a terrible night's sleep and my run this morning was a bit like wading through treacle! I hope things get better for you xxx

I also had to feed the lions first 😂

Strangely I was slower, my HR was lower and it was a real struggle yet my VO2 max went up . I thought that was supposed to be when you were using your oxygen efficiently. Mind you the breathing was the only thing that was going ok this morning. 🤣

7k is a heck of an achievement with all that has been going on around you, even if it doesn't feel like it. This will hold you in good stead though as you had to dig deep and almost run on empty.

Definitely!!! I’ve “topped up” now though 😜 although I burnt my first pan of porridge, and I’m having to air the house because it smells like burnt toast now 😫

in reply to limberlou

😂😂😂😂😂 I did burn my son's toast this morning!!

I’ve read that interrupted sleep is common in this new world and there are loads of us (I’m the same) going through it. Like you, I get too hot then I get thirsty then I need a pee....... what I’ve found is not to stress about it all. I did an online “sleep” course years ago because I suffered badly from insomnia and one of the tips was not to worry about lack of sleep but to break the cycle and get up and go into another room and do something (read, do a jigsaw) for a while and then go back to bed. I do this and it really works.

Anyway, a bit off-topic. Well done on the run especially when you haven’t slept well 🏃‍♀️🙂

Oh dear! Not a great morning but on the plus side - you got out and you ran 7k. Everyone keeps telling me it doesn’t matter if it’s slow or not pretty so I’m repeating it to you! Hope the porridge scrapes off the pan eventually and that you have a better night’s sleep tonight!

Oh dear, how dare that mouse wake you 🤣 so inconsiderate. I think we all have to be relaxed about sleep just now. Be thankful for the hours we get, ignore the others. Well done on getting out 7k, marvellous. Dont set yourself arbitrary targets particularly on days which are 🥴 you achieved the main one one which was to get out and run. Fantastic. Happy Running 🤗

Thinking I might change my runs around a bit. This plan does 3 runs the same length each week. This week was 18 mins x 3 with 1 min walks between.

Next week is 2x 22 mins so actually less time 🤪, then the 2nd run is 2 x 25 mins, and the 3rd is 2 x 30 mins ( which is the same time as I ran today and Friday but with less breaks ). Hhmmm we’ll see how that goes then ...

Plans are there to be adapted to suit. The main thing is enjoy 🤗

Well done on keeping going and running that 7k, despite all that was against you this morning.

Lots of us not sleeping that well at present, hope your walk with help you sleep better tonight.

I certainly hope so too another 7k on our walk this afternoon. I’d better sleep tonight!!!

Sounds like you’ve had a great walk too 👍

I heard a very interesting podcast a few months ago and the main guest was taking about the massive benefits of all of us having a good walk regularly. He said a good walk really helps us sleep well, amongst several other benefits.

I feel your pain limberlou!!! You've just described my nights which are even more disturbed if I'm at work next day. But I envy you're distance achieved. Running is something I'm having to work really hard at and it's posts like this that inspire me to keep going. I know I'm not alone and thank you to responders for making me feel it's ok to have an off day😁 hope you're night's sleep improved👍🤞

Well it did ... of sorts. I took a Nytol and drifted off easily and woke twice for a much needed wee. Hydrated a bit too much yesterday I think 🤣.

Bug the. I foolishly slept in past my usual 7.00am lie in and didn’t get up till 9.15 and now I have a headache. Which could be pollen induced as I had my windows open fully last night. I’m sure I’ll feel better after a coffee, some porridge and some Pilates 😁my Garmin says I slept for 9hrs 50 last night!!! Hmmm

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Sometimes we just have bad days or a few bad days. You’ve been poorly and the lack of sleep does not help. At least you’re still getting out there! 👍🏼

I was poorly from Oct to Jan!!! Should be over that by now!! But yeah a good nights sleep makes all the diference.

I know you know this will pass and hope that just venting about it has helped. Loved the ideas of prides of lions and farting mice 🐁. This too will pass.

Surprisingly the “pride “ were pretty good this morning. Perhaps they realised mummy needed her sleep.

Mimi ( the matriarch) was waiting on the landing windowsill, when I opened the curtains. (She goes up the shed roof and waits for me to let her in).

Tiny Roma was shouting her head off to me and waiting on the arm of the settee as I went into the sittingroom.

Floofy Luna likes to wind in and out of my legs as I stumble out to the utility room to feed them. And occasionally flop onto her back for tummy rubs, right in front of me, with no warning.

And the King of the Jungle, Loki was still asleep on the settee. He likes to wait until the females have all stopped pestering me and then he waits for me to open the window (Although we have perfectly good cat flaps) so that he can wake fully while sitting half in and out for about half an hour. Then he’ll go and eat a little before going upstairs for the rest of his 23 hours sleep, on the blanket on my bed.

Wish I had HIS sleep skills!!!!
