Lovely sunny day and set out to do 10k. Everything was fine until about 6k and I started getting stomach cramps and let's just day I needed home asap.

It was my own fault now that i think of it as my daughter dropped off some shopping last night and in amongst it was the chocolate. Now I don't really eat that much chocolate anymore but last night I must have had too much.

Managed to phone my husband to come get me and got home in time .

So lesson learned 🤣

Please say I'm not the only one who's made this mistake?

Feel absolutely fine now and had a shower. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

That title sounded like a Columbo programme!! The only things I don't like are chocolate and cola so I can't say that it's happened to me. You still did 6k though and next time you'll run on and laugh about this 😂😂😂 hope the new trainers felt good.

Yes I do. I like hot and spicy food the most. I'm more savoury than sweet.

Since lockdown I’ve stopped eating anything with nuts in it (even my beloved crunchy peanut butter ☹️) in case I broke a tooth.....no dentists around here...

I have made the mistake once of eating eggs for lunch and then going for a run 🤢

Never again.

Safer not to eat any chocolate 24, not 12 hours before you run, the only time I have ever turned back was when I was out for my Sunday morning walk about 7 years ago after eating far too many MUSHROOMS for breakfast.

I nearly did a Paula Radcliffe once early on in c25k. I recorded a very quick sprint home!😳 Now I'm very careful about what I eat and when if I know I'm running. 😀

Oh.... It happened to a good friend last year (not from eating chocolate by the way) 4 miles into a 10 mile run and then she just suddenly had to go. She too got her partner to rush over and drive her back home. If it’s what I’m thinking, you are not alone. Apparently ‘Runners poo’ really is a thing!! 😂 Not happened to me yet but i am quite regular first thing in the morning and luckily just before a run.

Oh dear, can’t say I’ve ever experienced that! I don’t eat for 2-3 hours before running but I don’t have any problems with food from the night before.

Still, as you say it’s all ok now and lesson learned! 🙂👍

Happens to me all the time. Not due to chocolate cos I don't eat that (migraine trigger), just due to Crohn's and an unpredictable gut.

Often have to stop mid run even if evacuated just before heading out. It's really frustrating. Sometimes I don't run if I sense something's coming but most of the time I refuse to let it defeat me.

Always carry tissues and practice squats regularly - makes going in the woods much easier.

oh no. At least you still got a run in. Maybe have chocolate after a run as a treat after your hard work! 👍🏼

I used to eat a lot of chocolate and I mean loads after stopping smoking and never had any side effects . But for the last 2 years I don't eat it as much now and I think I just ate too much 🤣 lesson learned

When I was running longer distances last summer I had the same issue 8k in and had to run home the return 8k. No tissues on me and lots of people around. Let’s just say I never realised how good my muscle control was. I unlocked my front door and was never so glad that I lived on my own., screaming at my cat “ get out of the way” I just made it to safety.!! Makes me sweat thinking about it now. 🥵but I think that return 8 k was a lot faster 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe it's just me, but I found the "perfect" pre race snack for me are Magnum Bars. Two for a HM or Ten Miler, one for a 10k. :)

I figure it gives me Carbs and hydration, plus motivates me to "run off" the junk calories :)

I have read on the marathon site that a lot of runners take a diarrhoea tablet beforehand to stop such occurrences, as I think the long distance running creates a problem.

When I was building up to 10 miles, I was glad of the public conveniences en route. 🥴

Feel for you there. I have a problem that comes and goes like that, if it’s going to happen usually strike about kilometre 3. Won’t leave the house straight away, but still get caught out on occasions. I can almost control myself if walking but not running. Was trying to get the doctors to ascertain what the problem is, then my arthritis overtook that in the critical stakes and then along came covid. Now I just do what I can and stay at least 2 meters away from other people!! Hope you get that 10k in soon.

Lol Buddy, is it wrong that your ending of "fine now and had a shower" had me smiling as it sounded like you were saying you made a right mess of yourself 😂

I hope it's just the way I read it and you made it home without a dreaded accident...I had a similar situation after trying a gel for the 1st time, luckily I cut my run short and just made it home in time 😳

Also I tried some gels previously just to see how my stomach would cope with them and they were fine. SIS gels and different flavours as well

It was a SIS gel I tried...was going out for 10K early morning so 65/70 mins and had no jelly babies so decided to try a gel and see if it helped with stamina. About half way round needed the loo, then by 7K I was like hang on a minute, I really need to head home quickly...that's when my brain suddenly woke up and I remembered the fact that gels can have that effect on some people! 😳

Shame as I found the isotonic gel easier to consume than the jelly babies but I only needed telling once, jelly babies for me from now on 👍

I've no gels just now so going out tomorrow with my new running belt with 2 small water bottles and I'm going to try the jelly babies. Mind you it's the haribo ones I can't stand the bassetts jelly babies they make me feel sick 🤢

Good luck, hope they do the job...I have a flip belt, I love it, so much easier than having my phone on an arm strap 👍
