What I look like when I run

Yesterday after 2 weeks of feeling I was making real progress with my running and pleased at losing weight (8kg) I filmed myself to see how to improve my technique. Wow was suitably horrible, worse than running photos. Anyway just seen this on instagram and it perfectly sums it up ;-)

I'm sure your running form is better than that! 😃😅😂🤣

I’m a little faster but otherwise quite similar... ;-)

I don't think you can run naturally when the camera is on you CP2😉 it all goes a bit stiff and awkward😁...

That's my experience of this anyway 😆

Better to imagine the prancing pony or gazelle that you feel you look like!

Happy running.🌷xxx

Yes I was feeling reasonably good but found out that not only i heel strike in some shoes, i waddle from side to side and run on a line rather than each side of it. Thinking gazelle thoughts!xx

Wow 8kg well done you that must make a big difference to your running. I think running form is vastly overrated 🤣🤣 having a fun run is the important thing 🤗

Well it’s a form just maybe not the prettiest or most efficient. At least it can only get better!

Thanks, yes it’s really starting to make a difference. I did some tempo intervals and checked after; was doing them at 4’30” per km!!! 😱 I generally run 7’30-8’... kipchoge better look out when I am at targe weight!

Sometimes at parkrun I would have had a very good run and finished in under 27 minutes. When I would have looked back on the photos taken at parkrun I looked like I was having a fit. But that’s ok, I was putting in a good effort. Then other days at parkrun I would decide to have a nice relaxing run finishing in around 30 mins. I still looked like I was having a fit in the run photos. Meanwhile in my head there I was thinking I was an athlete.

Haha yes, I was thinking, I must be looking ok, I feel great and running more easily. Yeah i looked like I’d been released from somewhere. Helps knowing it’s not just me

Well done on the weight loss! That’s brilliant 👍💪🙂

What we look like when we run is overrated, we’re all moving and strutting our stuff so what does it matter if we look a bit......disheveled. ...? 🤣🏃‍♀️🏃🤣

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toIrishprincess

Well it wasnt the disheveled that got me. The night before I’d dressed up and felt amazing and got very positive comments. Next day not only I look pretty fat and hideous in day glow but i waddle! I generally was swaying fromnside to side. Now the massive positive is that I don’t see myself run in real life so i can definitely be a gazelle again

We’re all gazelles here ....🏃‍♀️🏃🙂

Well done on losing 8kg - huge achievement! Whilst out running yesterday I wondered about filming myself to improve my technique- don’t think I will now! 🙈🤣

Couchpotato2 in reply toReluctantrunner40

Haha well, it is useful but be warned it’s unlikely you will see it as looking ok. So be mentally prepared!

Well done on your weight loss, and on getting 4m30 per k/m during your intervals.

That is some going.

In my own (deluded) mind, I run powerfully yet gracefully. The reality is totally different, as I noticed a few weeks ago when I saw my reflection in a shop window. I didn't look powerful or graceful 🤣, but I was out there running.

Happy running to you.

Haha yes I look in car windows, shop windows and well it’s not great. You are right, we are running and that’s all that matters.

I hated the video they did of me when I went for hair analysis. The camera was bum level and all I could see was this large posterior wobbling with each step. Not at all the picture I had in my head.

Did it help your running style/posture!

The autocorrect of gait to hair made me laugh. I have images of Rapunzel on a treadmill.

Bother, didn't see that. I'll have to leave it incorrectly ted now. This phone! I corrected now. Try again : uncorrected now!!! Bloody auto correct. You couldn't make it up.

Couchpotato2 profile image

Haha I was thinking how long is your hairnl if they were filming your bum all the time!

Should have ended with a ?

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toBaddieThePirate

I hadn’t thought if that, was planning to do gait analysis post lockdown. Will have to be mentally prepared for it!

It’s a bit like in Briget Jones when she comes down then fireman’s pole

I don’t think any of us like videos, voice recordings or photos of ourselves, we put them though some sort of distorting filter. To everyone else we probably look normal.

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toCoddfish

Yes a friend saw it and she said it wasnt terrible. I don’t think we see ourselves as others see us so i have to rely more on what my friends say
