I still can’t reach that elusive 30 minute 5k, but I’m getting there!! Only time that was faster was 2.5k in 14:38 minutes a few weeks ago. Not bad for a 5’3” 53 year old considering i couldn’t even run for one minute this time last year πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Not bad you say , it's amazing to get that time for a 5k . Just keep chipping away that sub 30 5k is just around the corner πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

If my lungs would let me πŸ˜‚ I think after the Ju Ju plan my three runs a week could be a 2.5k sprint, a nice 5k, with a leisurely long run at the weekend. For now i could find and plan a 5k route that is a downward slope or flat all the way? Then i might be able to do it.πŸ˜‚ Easier on the lungs, cheating but...

Good run and time for you Sonia52, don't worry about getting a sub 30 minute 5k, I am sure you will get that soon, I have been running now for just over 2 years since I began C25K, I get regular sub 33 minutes for a 5K but that as you call it "elusive" sub 30 minute 5k is still to come for me if it ever does.

It’s that point when a fast jog turns into a run which also becomes hard work. I do sometimes get a sub 6/km pace in my splits like today. Once it was actually down to 5.34/km. But I can’t keep it up so it averages out especially with hills. I so envy (but also try to sensibly ignore) those young and tall β€˜gazelles’ that I see run past my house with seemingly effortless grace.

I get your point on those young and tall gazelles, I think in all the kilometres I have ran in those 2 years I have only ran 2 sub 6/km splits, if the auto voice in any of my runs that split was 5 something I would jump with joy but the next split would probably be 7 something.

Wow fantastic effort, one day you will just do it, so close. Maybe that should be my next target after I’ve moved house. Happy running πŸ€—

Don't worry - you'll get there - sometimes up, sometimes down but the trend will go where you want,

Hi Sonia, don't worry about breaking the 30 min 5km. You might surprise yourself but just enjoy regular running, especially on a lovely day.

My 18 yr old grandson, back from an injury, did the Armagh International 5k I 14mins 15secs.

I'll just plod on doing my own thing. Now off to do jujus plan wk2 run3 in my own time.

Sorry typing error. I did WK3 run3.

The trick to getting faster seems to be miles under the legs and enough rest between.

My 3km run today was at a pace that might have given me a sub 28 minute 5km run, and I didn't feel strained in doing that pace. (However, a niggle that has been developing the last few days will be stopping me doing that again in the near future.)

The speedups seem to have come when I was routinely plodding for more than an hour at a time. The long "runs" haven't become faster but the endurance seems to have improved the pace of my short runs.

We are of similar age, but I'm a 6ft tall guy who might be slowly transforming into a gazelle.

A year has past and I did get my sub 30 min 5k after all! A few times and with my PB at 28.31 after completing a Garmin 5k timed goal plan. I even managed to achieve a 1 hour and 14 seconds 10k!! Which was bizarrely easier and more enjoyable. Sadly I’m back on the injury couch again for the last three months and don’t know when I’ll be able to run again.
