Went out aiming to do my 9k this morning in preparation for Sunday's 10k. I was downhearted at first as after the first 1k, or so I thought, my pace was about 12 minutes. That's odd I thought, I haven't run slower than about 8 minutes for about 9 months. I knew I was taking it slow, but not that slow! The apparent slow pace continued for the next 2 units of distance and only then did I realise that my Garmin was clocking up miles, not km! I must have nudged it somehow as it's never been on that setting before. I didn't want to change it en route as I didn't want to delete or terminate the run by mistake.
So on I went, I knew that 5 miles is about 8k and I'm quite good with numbers so I was trying to calculate the fractions in my head as I ran. Good distraction technique!
I did the run I'd planned, which I knew would be about 9k, then a bit more for luck on the way home. 9.74k, as you can see!
I'm very happy with that and feeling more confident about Sunday. I still have a problem with a blister, which was hurting today, but I have 4 rest days now. I don't know anyone else running the race on Sunday but my husband is coming along to cheer me on! π
