I recently posted about a problem with my foot which has turned out to be arthritis in one of my toes - oh the pleasures of getting older! I had planned to treat myself to some new shoes for my recent birthday, but the lockdown had put paid to any thoughts of going into our local specialist shop Alexandra Sports and choosing some.
I don't believe that the state of my shoes was making a significant difference to my toe problem, but decided that I couldn't wait any longer - as demonstrated by the picture! Yes I am definitely a heel striker and had already had my trusty Saucony Omni 16s reheeled (originally purchased prior to c25k nearly 2 years ago!), but as you can see, the time had come to retire them to the great shoe cupboard in the sky!
So I resorted to emailing the shop, who advised that although the 16s are no longer available, the updated Omni Isos would be a suitable replacement - hence ordered and swiftly received (I like the yellow soles). They get their first outing for my virtual parkrun tomorrow - wish me luck!😀

Definitely the time has come JP!! At least you can do a like for (almost) like upgrade, and treat us all to the new shoe pic. They've been few and far between lately 🤔
You’ve managed to wear the same shoes for 2 years Jonathan? I think you may have found your answer. My first pair only lasted 9 months, and I’ve bought my 3rd pair. Are you able to run in them and return them if you don’t like them like you do in the shop?
Good move; not before time! My second anniversary of starting C25k is on 23 May. I have 3 pairs of shoes; two road pairs (one 2 years old, the other about 10 months) and my trails. I am going to relegate the 2 year olds to dog walks, and buy some new ones to wear week on/week off with the 10 month old pair. Is this profligacy ? I don’t care...I just wondered!
Well they look great - love those yellow noses! Alexandra Sports is a great shop so hope the shoes work out well. Happy non-Parkrun tomorrow. I’ll look forward to the report. 😄👍
Yes, I've found them very supportive - but expensive!
It's the swelling that occurs after running (or any exercise) that I'm finding most uncomfortable at present, although that seems to be slowly improving .🤞

There are bargain Saucony’s to be found. I got a pair of my fave kinvara 5’s for £28. They are an unpopular colour that’s all Check it out! 😃. Have a google
Omni 16! Now there’s a blast from the past! They were my first running shoes - the exact ones that I see you had to. I’ve had about 8 pairs since those! I liked the omni ISOs better but my tire started to cold through the top of the ISO 2 so I ended up swapping to Hoka Gaviota. Even better!
Enjoy your new shoes. 300 -500 miles or 6 months for your next pair 🤣
Thanks Tasha - my toe had started to come through the top of the 16s, but I guess that's not surprising given the mileage I must have done! The shop did suggest another couple of options but I was a bit nervous without being able to try them on , so stuck with what I knew.
