It’s not COVID-19, just a fly.

I was out for my 5K run this evening. I’m being very mindful to respect social distancing and stay within the recommended 2 kilometre radius from my home. I’m also only running on my own and leave my home for just that 30 mins to run. Thankfully that radius is encircling my usual 5K loop. I like this route because it has wide paths and cycle lanes and is exactly 5K. Beautiful evening for a run, blue sky and light winds. First time this year that ran in just my t-shirt, obviously I had my shorts on too, I’m not an animal.😂

Just as I reached the 3K mark I was running on my side of the road with 2 ladies on a path on the opposite side. Just as I passed them I swallowed a fly. Or rather the fly flew into the back of my throat as I inhaled. You guessed it, a fit of coughing 😷 ensued. The 2 ladies looked back in horror. I had my mouth covered with my hand as I dry wretched and coughed fighting to get the fly out. I got the fly removed thankfully, recovered for a moment and then giggled. The ladies were disgusted at me coughing, they’d have been gagging and coughing too if they swallowed a fly. How strange our world has become. I then ran home thankfully without any further incidents.

Happy running.

Damien

Sounds like a nice run, except for the fly.

I set off to do 6k (to get my 10000 steps (day 95) but gave up on a slightly hilly bit at 4.5k. Don't know why, I usually run it ok. I stopped my Garmin and walked. After just a minute or two I decided to try again, still a little bit uphill. once I reached the top I found I was ok to keep going and did another 2.5km in total.

I thought I felt a spot or two of rain as I walked back, by the time I was getting out of the shower it was chucking it down. So no gardening today, had to start a new jigsaw.

I’m so impressed with your 10,000 steps per day streak. 95 days is amazing, your doing so well. Another 5 days will get you to a great milestone. I hope the jigsaw is going well.

Thanks, a 6 km run this morning brought me to 97 days.

100 days on Saturday, my latest non-parkrun day.

I did a separate post

Thanks Annie, I had a great run. It was my 6th run this month. I’m trying run everyday for April. I did a 26:46 min 5K today. I’m going to slow down tomorrow.

Fly in the throat bound to make you cough and splutter. Was he Ok.

Yes thank you. I was fine afterwards. It just struck me that 2 months ago the 2 ladies would have probably crossed the road to check if I was OK. Instead today people are disgusted to see someone cough in public. I hope this crazy time passes soon without destroying too many lives along the way.

Not you the fly.

Ha Ha. The Fly is no more. I think the experience might have been too traumatic, for both of us.

🎶🎵🎶 I know a young fellow who (almost) swallowed a fly. 🎶 I don’t know why he swallowed a fly. 🎶🎵🎶 But he didn’t die! 🎶🎵🎶

He just caused a neighbourhood meltdown. 🤣🤣

Strange times, but I’m glad to hear you ultimately rejected that particular bit of extra protein, even in these times of scarcity.

Take care, and happy running of your daily 5k. 👍

Just about to head out for another run now. I’ll try not to eat any flies today

👍 Yes, you’ve done that episode. We need something different to entertain us now. 😄

😂😂 this makes me gag and giggle at the same time 😩 I bet those old dears (hope they were sisters 🤔) were telling everyone about you when they got home.....but at least if you see them again they’ll give you a really wide berth 🙂

I’ll keep my eyes peeled for them today. Going for my run soon.

Haha nothing worse than swallowing a fly. Hope the two ladies were 2m apart!

Oh dear! Is that why they say you should run with tour mouth closed? I chuckled at the ladies giving you a wide berth - I suffer with a permanent ticklish cough so going anywhere there’s days is fraught with people glaring at me! Hope the next run is protein free!

Me too. Going now. I’ll keep my mouth shut. 🤐

Oh no Damien! That’s unfortunate at the best of times, but we all know at the moment that coughing isn’t cool in public!

Hopefully the ladies understood your predicament? I’m not sure the fly would have though! 🦟

Happy safe fly-free running. 🏃‍♂️

Cheers Cheeky. I had a lovely Fly free run this evening with Oisin. Hope all is well with you.

Ahh that’s good. You wouldn’t want to repeat that again in a hurry would you? 🦟

We’re all ok here thanks. We have the entire family living back at home, including our eldest daughter’s partner and grandson, so it’s lovely - although we’d much rather everything was back to normal. Flossie loves all the extra walks she’s getting! 🐾🐾

Look after yourself and your family. 😀

Oh goodness.... ! The times are strange and more people trying to not cough for the simplest of reasons... and hay fever season is not helping.. I always get a dry cough! Fortunately it is only him and me here in lockdown :)
